hygrometer question

hello!

i just started up my coolidor today and went and bought a $20 hygrometer from my local hardware store. I am attempting to do the salt test but am wondering when I should at least have a humidity reading? Right now all I can see on it is a temperature but nothing for humidity. It's only been 20 mins though, I'm just not sure if this is normal and if it takes time to get a reading?

thanks

Re: hygrometer question

It should have already been reading the room humidity. There is no reading at all?

That doesn't sound right. Is there a maybe a separate battery for the hygro?

Re: hygrometer question

I'm getting worried now because I just bought a bunch of cigars and some heartfelt beads. I really don't want them to get ruined! Can I just put my beads in the coolidor and assume its a good humidity until I get a good meter?

Re: hygrometer question

I'll look up the brand and see what I can find. As for your smokes, yes you can just put 'em in there but I'd get a working hygro as soon as possible. As for the one you have, give it 24 hours to see what happens. I'll check back here when I can find some info on the brand.

Re: hygrometer question

ok this frustrated me so much I went back and exchanged it for a different model. It's the same company but has a different display. The humidity is now showing!

Now to do the salt test. I didn't buy any distilled water but used some of my brita water instead. I hope this is okay?

Re: hygrometer question

Rocky Vintages are good, and also the Summer Blend is not bad. The Edge Maduro is going to be strong. I would save the Padron Anni until you have developed your palate, as you will most likely enjoy it more.
