Broken Zikar :(

Yup, went to use my two week only rewood xi3 cutter today and it is permanently locked in the close position. Nothing i do will open this thing up. Its kinda discouraging and being that i really loved this cutter the past two weeks, and i was so excited about getting to use it over and over again over the holiday weekend. I was out and was forced to cut my cigar with a razor blade. Looks like i will be stuck with a single blade cutter this weekend.

I'm also going away next saturday on vacation and i really wanted to have this cutter with me. Im hoping if i send it out tomorrow that by the grace of god Xikar can have it back to me by next friday.

To top things off, i ordered a few samplers from CI and they came in today, and they got one of the samplers mixed up too. They will hear from me. Life is not perfect, but hell, it could be worse right?

Re: Broken Zikar :(

Heard too many bad stories about Xikar cutters. I'd send it back and have it replaced and then pick up a Palio cutter as your go-to cutter and keep the Xikar as your backup... Though I expect you won't need it with the Palio.

I've only been using mine a month or so but I can't see any possible way that it could break or stick. It's too simple in design, where the Xikar is decidedly complicated.

Sorry to hear about your bummer. Try this - while you've got the razor blade, make some V-cuts. I've done this with good results - I have a real V-cutter on the way but a razor blade works in a pinch and is easier than trying to do a straight cut.

Re: Broken Zikar :(

Got 2 Xikar cutters and 1 is the redwood you are refering to. Wife gave it to me for Xmas 2 years ago and still going strong. Xikar will take care of it. Their customer service is excellent. I use their ligters also. Had one lighter go bad, took it to my local B&M, replaced on the spot. I doubt you will get it back in a week but make a phone call or check with your local that sells them.

I've actually had very good luck with one Xikar I bought several years ago. I have had to replace another one I bought after that, but Xikar's customer service was outstanding.

Re: Broken Zikar :(

Never heard of one doing that before, and that it happened on a smoking weekend. But I can tell you that Xikar stands behind their product 100% and will take care of you.

sorry to hear that. Xikar will take care of you. I hope you are smoking with friends and they have a good cutter. If not buy a cheap one and enjoy your cigars

Re: Broken Zikar :(

I've been using the same Xi cutter since I got into cigars a little over a year ago with no problems and still super sharp. Seems pretty solidly build, I'm surprised to hear of one breaking. Like the others have said if you contact Xikar I'm sure they would make things right.

My experience with Xikar products is nothing but greatness. A company that stands by their products with a 100% guarantee is okay in my book. In these times, its hard to find companies like that.

Re: Broken Zikar :(

^^^ This is true. I sent in my cutter a lil over a week ago, But my dumb ass lost the ups reciept with the tracking # on it, so im not even sure it arrived safe and sound at Xikar. On the other hand i did recieve my free cutter sheath for registering my cutter... just wish i had something to put in it

So it apears i will be leaving for vacation in 2 days without my cutter... life could be worse, but i was really looking foward to having it... Life will go on, and as soon as i light up that first smoke on the beach nothing else will matter for a few days!

Re: Broken Zikar :(

Sorry to hear about your Xicar...

I was about to buy one now I am going to look around some more...

I usually use a punch, but since another thread on here, I decided to try cutting for a while...

All I currently have is one of those freebie plastic gulliotine cutters...

Not great but works...

Would like something nicer though...
