Can I sharpen my cutter?

I bought a pretty high quality stainless steel guillotine cutter a few weeks ago, and after maybe a dozen uses, it's dulled considerably. Is there anyway to revive it, or is my purchase garbage?

What brand is it? You mentioned "high quality" so if it's possibly XiKar, you can send it in for a brand new one.

Re: Can I sharpen my cutter?

If it is a high quality cutter it should not have got dull so quickly.

I know Xikar and Palio will either sharpen or replace their cutters free of charge.
Maybe try taking or sending it back to the place you got it.

Thats what I was thinking. A high quality cutter should last years and hundreds of uses.

If its not one of the 'name brands', I'd try returning it to the store or exchanging. But wow, after only a dozen uses? I dont know of any type of stainless steel that would dull SO quickly.

I'll try taking it back to the store. Is it perhaps something I'm doing wrong?

Re: Can I sharpen my cutter?

Kind of hard to do anything wrong that would damage the cutter unless you were stripping wire with it or something. The best way to cut a cigar until you get used to it is to lay the cutter down flat on the table, open it, stand the cigar up between the blades (cap toward the table of course) and then cut. That way you will never take too much of the cap off.

Re: Can I sharpen my cutter?

I agree with the brothers here,,,if you bought a quality cutter it should last along time. I have a Boston Cutter that I have had for 10 years and still cuts like brand new,,,but I paid more than the average price for this. In this instance you get what you pay for.

Re: Can I sharpen my cutter?

I agree with all here--If you have a Palio or Xikar they have the best warranty there is. If not, invest in one, you won't regret it. You will never have to buy another.....Guaranteed for life...........
