humidor design question?
Was looking at the stunning and very functional humidor that waxingmoon created. Great job. I want one just like it, but in different wood.
It appears to me(I am not sure) that the bottom of the humidor(inside) has some slats, so that the bottom cigars are not laying directly entirely on bottom piece of wood. 1) Wouldnt that design create a more positive flow around the cigars at the bottom, giving them a much more even ageing, and air flow all over? 2) And if those are indeed raised slats, if you had the humido filled, could that creat over time, uneven pressure on the bottom cigars, and cause uneven pressure marks or breakage of the wrapper over time? I do love the shelves and the construction. Great work. Not trying to down the humidor, I have not seen one with a bottom like that and it posed those two above questions in my mind... Much regards Jerry |

Re: humidor design question?
Hi Jerry.... Thank you for the comments & critiques. The grate on the bottom is removable, it simply lifts out. The slats are together close, so I don't think that the pressure would be an issue. They're spaced out 1/4". Now if they were 1/2" or maybe even 3/8.... don't know. But, 1/4" is almost the same as having solid wood down there.... Kind of like the effect that the guy who lays on a bed of nails has....
I was going for the circulation effect. Plus, it lifts out for easy cleaning of crumbs. You can see a start to finish blog over here. It would be an optional thing.... I got the idea from a "toast buttering" station thing-a-bob that I made for my wife.... ![]() Drop me a PM or an email.... I have a lot of nice wood up in the loft, could build ya something ya like.... Here's what the inside looked like before installation. The only pieces that got glued in to the box are the two side runners that the trays sit on. ![]() Last edited by WaxingMoon; 08-16-2009 at 10:26 PM.. |

Thanks for the enlarged photo. I see the details now. Beautiful. Maybee a month or so before the holiday times, I can start making hints on what I want to the family. In the smaller photo it looked more raised. Much regards Jerry |
