I am wondering into the land of the beasts and am in need of a larger gauge cutter. I don't see too many vendors that list the size of their cutters. What is a boy to do? Trying to find one for $30 or less if possible.

Palio cuts up to a 58 ring gauge as does the Xikars, both well worth the money, Cuban Crafters also makes one that will go up to a 54, but has a back to it so that it cut 1/8" off at a time for $15

I will look those up. I really don't want one with the back. I have been known to cut a gar in 2 if I don't have time to smoke the entire thing.... I know... foul.

Re: big gauge cutters

Nothing wrong with making your own 2-1 special (I believe that was Arganese(sp?)'s SCHIP This Cigar at IPCPR) but something to think about on the other cutters is that they won't go all of the way down the cigar if it is 58. If that is what you are looking for on a really large ring gauge then you probably need to find one that can cut 60+

V Cutters are the way to go when you hit the big RG Cigars. If you get a bigger RG than that you might want to look into a radial arm saw. lol

Re: big gauge cutters

Get a nice punch then punch 1, 2, 3 holes as needed.

I would suggest overlaping the holes rather then 3 seperate holes unless its a total monster

Re: big gauge cutters

On the rare occasion I smoke a 60 RG, all I use is a toothpick. You really dont need to cut the cap as you would with a regular sized stick. If one hole isn't enough, I can always make another. Most gonzo RG's aren't rolled all that tight and just a tiny hole can more often than not, provide ample smoke and a nice draw.

Otherwise, as said, punch or V-cut.

I am not sure why I shy away from punches and v cutters. I guess I enjoy the "snip" of the G cutter. I need to think outside tha box..

Thanks Herf. Sometimes the easiest solutions are the hardest to see. But I think I am going to still get the biggest cutter (barring radial arm saws). I just love snapping off the heads of my sticks...
