Sick of Butchering Cigars

I have a cheap little cigar cutter right now that I got for free. It has completely butchered, at least, the last two weeks worth of cigars. I'm going to get a better cutter and was wondering what the best style/brand would be. I smoke a variety of cigars which includes some larger RG's so I would like one that could accommodate most or any situations. I was looking at Xikar, but honestly, being new to this, I have no idea what to look for.

I would have to say the cutter of choice is Palio. Use the search function and you will find tons of info here on cutters.

See if you can get your hands on both a Palio and an Xikar and see which one fits you best.

I have used both and both cut well above any "cheap" cuter but one feels better in my hand that the other.

Its a personal decesion on which one works for you.

Re: Sick of Butchering Cigars

I think for the $$$, Palio is gonna be a little better, unless you want wanna the cheaper plastic Xikars... Now don't get me wrong, I love Xikar, but I personally think the Palio makes a better cut of the two...JMHO...

If you want to splurge a little more, get a Dupont like I have below. Cuts better than the both mentioned above!

Quite honestly...all of them will do a better job than what you have now. When you get one, let us know what cutter you got, & how you like it!!!

Re: Sick of Butchering Cigars

I have each kind of cutter and have found over the years that a V Cutter is the most dependable,,best cut and enhances smoking a cigar. A good Cats Eye V cut will draw the smoke from the cigar without having to worry about the cigar wrapper unravelling. I never worry about tar build up as if it does it stay in the crack of the cut,,never on your tongue.

Re: Sick of Butchering Cigars

the cutters I rotate between are the palio the xikar and the wolf v cutter, I like the palio the best but mostly because I like the control I have with it over the awkward way of cutting using the zikar. the wolf cutter is a very good cut but I prefer a looser draw and sometimes depending on the cigar the v cut just isnt enough surface are.

Re: Sick of Butchering Cigars

My wife got me a Xikar for my birthday and I love it! Always a straight clean cut. Never tried the palio so I can't judge between the two, but I can say you won't be disappointed if you go the Xikar route

Re: Sick of Butchering Cigars

I use a Xicar Xi2 every day & never had a bad cut. My only problem with it is it can be a little sticky. Gotta get a V cutter one of these days......

Re: Sick of Butchering Cigars

I've had a Palio for 4 years now. Works the same now as when I bought it.

As far as cutting cigars with bigger ring gauges, the diameter of the cutter while open does not have to be as big or bigger than the ring gauge of the cigar. I've never had any problem cutting larger RG cigars with mine.
