Preference about cigar storage

Flipping through the numerous humidor pages and I notice that some folks store their individual sticks still with the cello wrap and some do not. I do not, but am wondering if their is any good reason I should?

I leave them on just to keep them from being damaged. I tend to inspect my cigars a little too often. I also saw a cool picture of a cigar with its wrapper, I can't remember which thread it was, that was yellow from age. I would have loved to smoke that cigar.

Re: Preference about cigar storage

If you have a smaller humidor, 200-300ct, and are mixing sticks, I would keep the cello on so the flavors don't bleed over. It doesn't matter if you have a larger, 1,000-3,000ct, and keep them in the boxes

Yeah, that was the original issue Opus X. That was cool.

Re: Preference about cigar storage

I considered taking all of mine off, but then I wanted to keep track of when they went in the Humi. I made a spreadsheet, but how would I keep track of identical cigars that went in at different times. If it was a stick that needed some age, I wouldn't want to accidently smoke the newer one. The wrapper allows me to put a sticker with the date on it.

Here we go again LOL. Sorry this is just a question that seems to pop up every few weeks. Nothing wrong with asking its just funny. You will get a ton of answers for doing it both ways.

I leave mine as them come, so if they have it I leave it one. And if I buy a box I leave them in the box inside my humidor of course.

I am too lazy to take them off, I don't know if that is a good reason.

Re: Preference about cigar storage

Unlike tx_tuff, I am new here and have not seen this debate before. It is interesting to read the comments of the different BOTL. I always take them off and let my boys breathe deep. But, I understand where zeavran1 is coming from too. Inspecting them quite often can eventually lead to some damage.

Plus, isnt the idea that they will mix their flavors and also absorb some of the cedar too?

Re: Preference about cigar storage

I used to take my cellos off. But now, I leave them on due to handling and trying to keep them from gettin damaged. I will mark the ones i'd like to rest some on the cello and try and keep them seperated from my dailys.

I leave em on myself.

It keeps my humidor cleaner, keeps my sticks a little more protected, & it has little effect on aging your sticks. The cello still breathes...

That's what they say about Gor-Tex. Try running a mile in a Gor-Tex jacket. You'll drown in your own sweat.

Frank, Im with you on this. People just dont seem to be very interested in using the "search" feature on this forum, so this question pops up more frequently.

BOTTOM LINE: I have damn good reasons for taking mine off. People who leave them on, have damn good reasons for leaving them on. Pick your poison. You will NEVER get a consensus.

The exception is, not ALL "celophane" is actually "celophane". In increasing numbers, cigars are encased in plastic wrap. This is BAD. The best way to test is to put fire to it: Black smoke = plastic. Whitish, sizzling smoke = celo.

Re: Preference about cigar storage

I leave em on as it makes no difference one way or the other. Been smoking cigars too long to really notice. What I like about the cello is that I can write the dates on the outside when I receive them,,,gives me a good idea of their time in the humidor before I take it out and smoke it.

Re: Preference about cigar storage

Does the cellophane protect from mold?

I leave it on... I guess because they come that way.
I have some CC that I wish were in cellophane, I have some worries about beetles and for some reason think that the plastic would contain a breakout. Don't know that it actual would.
