After purchasing a 100ct humidor, I find my self running out of room for my premium smokes. I have an old humidor I used to keep everything in, flavored and non-flavored (mainly ACIDs and Naturals by Drew Estate). My question to you is, is this humidor tainted forever? What can I do to reclaim it. It does not smell like ACIDS or anything else but cedar and cigars (like the walk in at my B&M)

Re: Reclaiming an Flavored Cigar Humidor
Funny:
I just set up recently a small 20 count humidor to hold some acids I intended to purchase for variety. I already had a kuba kuba. I kept the wrapper on so as not to taint my other cigars. I transferred it this morning to the newly seasoned 20 count humidor along with an absolutely delicious smelling tabac especial toro negra. Great smells of infused coffee and non infused chocolate. I kep both celophanes on. A few hours later the whole humi (including the especial) smell like kubab kuba. Its amazing the way smells can penetrate. Good luck with your humidor. I took the especial out, and have only the kuba kuba as my lone cigar in the humidor at the moment. I plan to purchasse an acid tin collection, just for this humi. Much regards Jerry |

You can lightly and I mean LIGHTLY sand the inside of the humi. PROTECT YOUR LUNGS WHEN SANDING SPANISH CEDAR its fine dust will screw you up good!
But that the basics of it. Shawn

Re: Reclaiming an Flavored Cigar Humidor
I also intend on reclaiming a humidor in the near future from some acids that i was into when i first started this slippery slope, I intend on basically just re-seasoning it. Im going to remove said acid cigars and leave it empty with the lid open for a couple of days, then go over it with some distilled water and close the lid for a day or two, hopefully once Im done with this process it will be safe for some regular sticks. Ill be sure to keep you posted. good luck

Thanks for the info guys. I actually had my wife smell my non-tainted humidor, and then the tainted one. Since she has the nose of a bloodhound, and did not detect any abnormalities I think I am going to try smokerings' suggestion and go from there. Sanding Spanish Ceder isn't something I'm eager to do so hopefully I can recover this thing with a minimum amount of effort. |

While I am a die hard for keeping the stinkers and the naturals separated, I'd concede that if you (or your bloodhound, LOL) can't smell it, then you wont taste it in your cigars.

Re: Reclaiming an Flavored Cigar Humidor
I would suggest getting a few of those Arm and Hammer Fridge and Freezer baking soda boxes. The kind you open the front and the back and put in the fridge. I have used them in coolers to get the plastic smell out and they work great! Afterward I put them under the seat of my car and it neutralizes all the odors. I would guess you could even sprinkle some Baking soda in the humi itself and let it sit for a few days. Then sand it down a little and you should be good to go. Keep us updated!
