How would this work for a coolerdor?
Walmart.com: Coleman Marine 150-Quart Cooler: Camping
Pros: 150 quarts. It's massive. Seems a decent seal - There's no rubber seal, just opposing grooves that give a bit of a suction when I open the lid. Did I mention it's big? Cons: 80$ I'd need a lot of beads to fill this guy up! Thoughts? |

Re: How would this work for a coolerdor?
I made one with the same style igloo brand. Took the handles off so it would stand on end. Cut some spanish cedar shelves to fit the slots on the inside. Holds the proper humidity well and it really does not take an over abundance of beads. Has served me well for a few years now and never a problem

Re: How would this work for a coolerdor?
I have that cooler.
Light test exposed an air leak around the recess for opening the lid. I added a small piece of weather stripping. I have 1 Lb of beads in mine.

Got mine at Sam's about 3 years ago at a cost of $55 back then. It seals perfectly. I have 1 pound of 65% beads in use, in one container, and 3 Oust fans and 3 hydrometers at work. One each at the bottom, about at the mid-way level and at the top level. I try not to open it too often, maybe every 3 or 4 days and it holds constant at 67% at the bottom, 65% at mid level and 64% at the top level. Buy it, you won't be sorry! Re: How would this work for a coolerdor?
That is what I call being proactive and doing your homework. I have a smaller cooler but also did the light test as well. A pound of beads is about right for this size container and it stays between 63 and 68% RH. Long term storage at its finest.
