Time for a new humidor
Well, my last shipment has done me in. My 75ct and 20ct, both of which have been holding far more than prescribed are stuffed to the gills. I am thinking a getting a 100ct glass top, which I will use to store my premium smokes and my CCs. I will then use the 75ct for everyday smokes and the 20ct for the smokes which I hand out to my friends who insist on not taking anything good because they will only take a few puffs (i have already converted one, but some of the other are unfortunately holding strong). Anyway, I digress...
How do you guys feel about the glass top humis? Obviously, I would keep it out of sunlight, but besides that how are they typically? |

Re: Time for a new humidor
I have a glass top thats about a 50ct. Word of advice.... get a 200ct. I would not worry too much about the glass top and go for storage space; unless you are heart set on a glass top. They are nice to look at and into, but from now on my bottom dollar is going into function. My first "true" humi was that 50ct glass top. That was filled, replaced by a 150ct and now ITS being replaced by a Vinotemp. All within a years time! I have a few sticks chilln' out I just got and may not have room for them.....
I experienced no problems with my glass top except the hgrometer was and still is stuck on 70% even after a calibration. No biggie bought a digital. I had it on my coffee table and all my friends always couldn't understand why it was a glass top and insisted on opening it up like they did not believe there was cigars in it! But most deffinately keep out of direct sunlight also. Im sure others will chime in on any pros/cons.

Re: Time for a new humidor
I agree with Shawn. Get at least a 200 count. I have a 100 ct glass top that has worked very well for me except that I wish it were bigger.

Re: Time for a new humidor
I patently do not like glass as a last line of defense for cigar storage. The light issue has been covered, but the fact is, glass SUCKS as an insulator. If your house is climate controlled and stays at a constant temp year round, by all means, glass is a viable way to go. Otherwise, surround the babies in something that will keep them as stabile as possible... perhaps... wood?
The exceptions are cabinets with all wooden drawers and glass doors. The ability to see my cigars seems expensive when compared to the value of consistent storage

Re: Time for a new humidor
Several of my larger humidors have glass fronts and I don't have any trouble with humidity, unless I forget to fill up. I do have to add extra in the winter months when I turn on the pellet stove,
I always wanted a glass top and if you smoke inside it would be cool to sit around with friends and pick the next victim. I also say go bigger this hobby never gets smaller!
