Tower of Power Question
I have been rethinking my humidor problem, and are now leaning towards the tower of power. I did a search on this forum and a have a few unanswered questions.
1) Can someone tell me what are the three measusements of one of the drawers in the drawer grouping. The ones in the middle that are for individual cigars. 2) What type of hygrometer are they using? I know its an analog, but which type? real hair? Does it tend to be accurate and is it adjustable?I would set it to be same as digital I would be using. 3) I know it ships by truck, do they bring it into the home, or is it just a ground foa? 4) The company says to call them if a problem during shipment receiving, but I assume the delivery guys are not going to wait around for you to open to inspect. Anyone have to return one? 5) What is the general quality of the makeup of the cabinet.? Are things tightfitting or the quality of a busch company put together cabinet? 6) Do you have trouble keeping the rh on spec? 7) Anyone using the outlets for electronic humification? Does it do a good job, from top to bottom or is their a big variable.? Which size and how many do you use? Thanks to all, for reading . Jerry |

Re: Tower of Power Question
Just had one shipped in yesterday.
#1 Measured from the inside of drawer. 2.5" Height x 11 1/8" Length x 8 5/8" Width. #2 The hygrometer is crap. Not adjustable, and never went about 55% rHumidity despite 24 hours in my perfect controlled 100 ct box with beads. It is more for appearance than anything. I've got a digital in there to monitor the priming. #3 They helped me get it into my house. I was the guys last delivery, and I offered him some water and a cigar (which he declined). Don't know if I just had a cool guy, or if this is typical. They are very heavy. 250 pounds I'd say. Have a buddy handy just in case. #4 They have to wait around for you to inspect if you request it. Mine was just fine. #5 Construction quality is above my expectations. I expected a somewhat flimsy box. It is solid cedar. Smells amazing when taking it out of the box. Tight door clasps. Don;t imagine it'll leak, ever. #6 Can't comment on this in the long term, but it has been holding at 70% for 12 hours now, already. #7 The outlet is great. It is basically an outlet that fits snugly with four pre drilled screw holes (screws included). Screw holes are in two blocks that extend outside of the back wall of the cabinet. Extending from the back of the outlet is a cord to plug into your wall. Again, this all fits snugly to avoid any leaks. I will probably only use it for a small fan. I am quite satisfied. It is considerably beyond what I expected. I paid $655 shipped on c-bid. Price I saw everywhere else way $599 with between $150 and $185 shipping. Let me know if I can answer anything else. I am going to humidify with 1 lb of 70% beads with a bowl of crystals from watersorb. If I can avoid purchasing something that will add to my utility bill I would be happy. If I need more humidity, I will add another bowl of crystals and another pound of beads to control the flow. Again, I am happy with the item. However, I am daunted by the fact that it is huge, and I have nowhere near the amount of cigars it would take to fill this. I suspect I might have enough to fill it maybe by 1/3. I sure can't afford to fill it soon. I will let it be a nice 2-4 year project. Maybe......... Last edited by Amlique; 09-26-2009 at 05:45 PM.. |

Re: Tower of Power Question
It scares me how fast you are flyin down this slope...LOL
I do not have a cabinet but when/if I do I will go with Aristocrat. I have not compared prices recently but have compared builds and Bob of Aristocrat blows the doors off alot of the big cabinets..and you can custom order your Aristocrat. Humidors & Aristocrat Cabinet Humidors As for your questions..I dont think I would worry about the Analog Hydrometer..just get a couple good digital or a weather station and would count on them. Pretty sure that the deliver to your door, not move it into the house..though you might try to bribe/pay them...and yes they should stay by while you open it...we do it with every package we receive at the plant I work for. Good Luck! Shawn

Re: Tower of Power Question
--I will be asking for a replacement (for the meter, not whole unit) if nothing has changed by Monday.
--I will use 2 meters inside. One on bottom trey and one on second from top. --My guy stayed with me inside and actually helped me get it out of the box as an inspection. I inspected the box on the truck to check for any apparent damage. There was none. He said it would be fine to actually open up the thing inside as a through inspection, because the road is around 60 yards from my house, so it would have been scary to bring it in open box from such a distance. They have the corners of the box reinforced, and have the whole cabinet encased in very heavy duty styrofoam. It is better packed than any plasma television I've purchased or help a friend unpack. --Because the unit is solid cedar, I did a light wipe down, as well as I am leaving two medium sized bowls of distilled water inside, (one on bottom of cabinet and one on top of drawers). I am waiting for the r/h to get above 75% then I will remove the water and add the beads and crystals. I don't know if this is the best way, it is just how I am doing it, and it seems to be working just fine. r/h has moved to 72% in the past few hours, so by this evening I feel I will be able to do the switch out. I'll monitor the levels for at least 3 days after to make sure that everything is golden before feeling comfortable enough to add my smokes. If I get a drop to quickly, I'll put back a bowl of water or maybe do another very light wipe down.
