Trouble maintaining RH level
Hello to all.
I need a meeting of the minds on this one. And please do not tell me to switch to beads as that is not an option I will take. ![]() I am maintaining about 9 humidors now in sizes from 20 -150 counts. All pretty much filled. Each one has at least one caliber 3, in it that is spot on, and checked weekly, and a credo, that has done its job. Humidors with a shelf have one caliber 3 on bottom and one on top. This pertains to one of my favorite humis, that holds around 125. It has a shelf. I keep a hygro on top and bottom. The rh on bottom has always been rock steady at 63 to 64 rh(it constantly fluctuates), at the top of humi, its always about 3 to 4 percent more rh. 66 to 68 percent. The large square credo was initially charged with pg solution, and then whenever I noticed the rh dropping a few points, I would add a squirt of d.w. to it, and that would do the trick. So about a week ago, I notice the hygros, start dropping bit by bit, to where the bottom one has gone down to 61, and the top down to 63. I know this is fine for some, but I prefer it the way I had it. I added some d.w. and there was no reaction after a few days. I then decided to put a drymisit, in bottom of humi, hopeing that this additional humidification would raise the level. After two days, its still at 61 with no rise in rh. I cant figure out, what is causing this drop. No change in cigar volume at all. Room is the same. (I keep all the humis together).. So I am baffled on this one. I swapped hygros with ones from other humidors, and no change in readings. This is a puzzlement to me. Open to hear on what may be causing this. Any further information needed, just ask. Sure appreciated. Much regards Jerry |

Re: Trouble maintaining RH level
It is possible the humidity in the house has dropped and the humidor in question leaks more then the others. This has happened to me a number of times. When I had my Plexiglas humidor it would stay rock steady while my glass top would be all over the place when the seasons changed.
Another possibility, did you add cigars to the humidor? If they were dry they may be soaking up more water. An outside possibility is the capacity of your humidifiers is going down, would not really explain why the humidity did not go up when you added another. And last but not least, the cigar gods are screwing with you! |

Re: Trouble maintaining RH level
this happened to me Jerry and it turned out that I didn't do a very good job seasoning it initially and had to do so again, haven't had a problem since! maybe try that out.
Good Luck!
