Hearfelt beads quesion?
Today, I will come into posession of my humidor number ten.
All my others have digitals and credo types in it. With this one I would like to try the hearfelt beads as an experiment. Question. I went to their site and saw the beads that are contained in a rectangular credo type style. Are these good to use? I would rather have something that attaches inside humi such as these , as opposed a bag or jar. I am looking at the 4 oz one, since it seems the 2 oz one, is just on the fringe of being the right size, and the website says too much is not a bad thing. The room they are in, will be cooler and dryer then the summertime. We keep this room cool, and in ny we get a relative low humidity. We basically keep the windows open a crack 24- 7. Much regards Jerry |

Re: Hearfelt beads quesion?
Why experiment with something that is suppose to already work, that's not a fun experiment.
I would suggest trying 100% silica sand crystals, in nylon bags(or just nylons), and sprayed with distilled water. I use these in my 125 ct fridgador and my 50 ct humidor. A buddy of mine uses them in his 20 ct, another friend uses them in his tupperware, and the guy at the local uses them in his two large chest coolers. My gauges usually sit at about 68% to 71% RH. I bought 8 lbs. for $14. And will never go back to any gels, beads, etc. |

Re: Hearfelt beads quesion?
Jerry, I have a large pepsi cooler that I use for my humi (got tired of a lot of small wood humis) and have had my beads for about 5 years. When I got mine I ordered a few pounds. I can say there are a LOT more reliable than gels, machines etc. I just make sure they are not too dry and they usually don't need water for a few months since I have so many. The inside of my cooler is lined with cedar from old sikar boxes so that does help. I have some in small pouches of panty hose on each shelf, but the bulk of the beads are in a sikar box right in the middle shelf. The temp in my area is around 70 all year round so not sure how they fair in harsh weather, but I love my beads and wouldn't use anything else.

Re: Hearfelt beads quesion?
I would think those rectangular containers would take some valuable space. I prefer the cigar-shaped tubes that heartfelt sells, just get 2-3 and you are set, and they only take up the space of 2-3 cigars.

Re: Hearfelt beads quesion?
I'm sure the rectangular ones work just fine. I use the round ones in my desktop humi's and they work great.

Re: Hearfelt beads quesion?
The rectangles should work. I use a churchill-sized tube in my 50ct. It does the trick, and keeps my RH stable. The only thing is how you charge the beads. If you're hanging it from the lid, you don't want to spray them directly, instead wrap them in a moist paper towel (distilled water). If you hit them directly with water, the beads tend to crack and break. Not a huge problem, but I have a feeling that you're very particular about your cigars and their storage and wouldn't want bits of Heartfelt beads all over your smokes =P.

The beads seemed to fall out, a little at a time, and get all over the place. Even in my keyboard. If thats the case, I can do without beads. I added a drymistat to the bottom of one of my humis in hopes of raising the bottom half of it a couple of degrees. Hasnt done a darn thing. Jerry |

Re: Hearfelt beads quesion?
If you don't mind a project you can put the beads in a pantyhose and put the pantyhose in a empty credo container. I got a bunch of empties if you want them, I originally planned to do that in my own humidor, but ended up putting the beads in a dish.

Ooo! I second Troy's idea, that sounds like you'd get the best of both worlds!

Re: Hearfelt beads quesion?
Two words "surface" and "area". Whatever you use, use the maximum exposed surface area so the beads can actually contact the most amount of air in your 'dor. The wife's stockings will work (remove wife from stocking before adding beads) but a floppy bag is hard to handle. The pucks or boxy shapes may fit already provided slots/spaces in the 'dor. And the tubes are great, since they are within your sticks and do their work right where they are needed. Combinations thereof work for me
