How many boxes are there in a bottle???
Looking at pulling the trigger on one of these: 12 Bottle Vinotemp
My question is how many boxes of cigars would I have to have to fill that sucker? I don't know if it's worth it for me and my humble 50-70 cigar collection at this point, but I know when summer comes I'll probably want it. |

Re: How many boxes are there in a bottle???
Since the dimensions of cigar boxes vary so much, that is tough to answer.
But here is alink to vinotemp themselves and you can search out specific dimensions. Wine Coolers - Vinotemp Rock On Sir! ![]() .

Re: How many boxes are there in a bottle???
Haha thank you Ka-Fiddlah! BTW 70 bucks shipped; think that's a good price for one of these puppies? That's like half a box of good sticks, or like 2 bundles of every-dayers! But I guess it's a small price to pay for better storage much more vast a quantity...? Idk, I never thought I'd slide this far down the slope! (Steps into bobsled)

Re: How many boxes are there in a bottle???
Hmmmmm...... You know I think that is a decent price. The big question (no pun intended) is; Is it big enough? The 28 bottle size is very popular and one can buy custom Sp. cedar drawers and shelves for them here on Puff from Chasden. He does excellant work! But these days a 28 bottle size seems to cost about $280 plus shipping. That is a lot more money. Plus if any of these fridges get shipped it seems that about 90% of them get damaged.... So, if the 12er is big enough to do you some good, and you can pick it up locally.... I would vote yea Note: beware the outside dimension verses the inside dimension. Personally, I think it is way too small but for $70 shipped I would buy 3!

Re: How many boxes are there in a bottle???
True that! If I need another I guess I could stack them, and that'd be enough inside space for 4 short of the 28-bottle bank-breaker! And yeah, these ones have pre-existing damage, like a scratch or minor dent. Shouldn't make a difference in functionality, though. Heck, they're probably the ones that got returned in the first place for shipping damage! LOL!
Now what's the deal with these? You can set the temperature you want them at? Are they quiet? Should I just look into a mini-fridge like college students use in their dorms? |

Re: How many boxes are there in a bottle???
They are quiet and appropriate for cigars because they use thermo-elecric cooling.
Normal fridges with compressors are louder and dryout the interior/contents so they are not the same. Normal fridges are able to impart a larger degree of cooling. Whereas the thermoelectric ones can only cool a certain percentage cooler than the ambient temperature of the room. and out ![]()

Re: How many boxes are there in a bottle???
The trick to using a fridge is to get one that isnt frost free. Thats the function that dries out your gars. Old fridges and some dormatory elcheapos arent frost free. The other issue is with the thermostat. Fridges typically don't run warm enough (66deg) to store cigars, so youre stuck buying an outboard thermostat, which just put you into the realm of the Vinotemp. Think about it, the kids at Vinotemp arent stoopid. If you could just mock up a fridge as a winodor cheaper than theirs, theyd never sell any.
OTOH, back in my beer brewing daze, my buddies and I would skulk around yardsales and such. We "bought" several old fridges with broken thermostats. The deal was, we haul it off for free. We'd install cheap, $30 thermos from the brew store. I had two; one for fermentaion and one for service. The service fridge was a "kegodor" with a hole cut in the door and a tap installed. Quite the conversation piece at parties.
