Question New coolidor help

I'm going to start building a coolidor soon, and was just wondering what the best thing to humidify it is, and also any good places to get them? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have absolutely no knowledge of this stuff.

One word....beads! Two vendors that the folks here really like are Heartfelt and Cigarmony. There is even a calculator at the Heartfelt site. Mark at Cigarmony.com has been really good to me! Here is a link to the calculator to see how much you will need for your size cooler. I'd recommend the 65%. Get you a hygrometer (measures temp and humidity) from Wallyworld for about $7 and some spanish cedar in the form of recycled cigar boxes or some of the nice spanish cedar trays at either of these vendors and you are all set!

Re: New coolidor help

I have a mini fridge and use nothing but 100% silica sand crystals. I bought 8 lbs. for $14. I currently use the crystals in my 50 ct. and in my fridgador (holding around 90+ cigars). I've got two friends that sue them in a 20 ct. each and another that works at a B&M that uses them in 2 large cooler chests. I tried Heartfelt once, as well as some bulk beads bought elsewhere, but didn't work as well as I would have hoped and the price wasn't right. Gave this a try after a convo at the local shop and will never go back.

Re: New coolidor help

I have a 150 qt Coleman cooler.

The bottom is covered with a fitted layer of cedar from cigar boxes (laid in not glued).

Cigars are kept in boxes or cedar trays.

Springfield Hygrometer is from Walmart.

I use 2 - 8oz mesh bags of 65 RH beads ( 1 at each end ) for humidification. My beads came from Heartfelt. RH is very stable.

Re: New coolidor help

3 coolers here. Nothing in the but cigars, cigar boxes. I have 1/2 pound of Heartfelt 65% beads in the smoking box and 1/2 pound of Heartfelt 60% beads in both of the aging boxes. Humidity is rock solid in both.

RH beads from Heartfelt or Cigarmony are one of the best investments you will ever make towards this hobbsession. Plus they are both BOTL.

Re: New coolidor help

I prefer 48qt coolers.
More manageable and all yer eggs aren't in one basket.
I fill coolers with similar stuff, like filing cabinets.
They stack nicely in the closet and are easy to move around.
Sure a bigger cooler holds more, but more coolers solve that
and when you add another there is less empty space.

Re: New coolidor help

I 2nd the 48 qt sugestion...if something goes dreadfully wrong, less smokes at risk, as well. Also, I have two words for you: Oust Fan. They really help with internal air circulation...as far as I can tell, they are no longer made, but my girlfriend scored me some online cheap (gotta love her!).
