Warped or Dropped Humi?
I have one of the ubiquitous (my big word for the day) Thompson's humi's that lots of folks start out with that has held 65% rh since week one. One of my son's friends evidently messed with it, even carrying it up a flight of stairs while I was at work. Of course I checked the sticks first chance I got and nothing seemed damaged. But now the humi has dropped to 61% and is holding. I noticed that the lid stays up just a hair on one side, but frankly don't remember if it was that way before.
Is this probably because of damage from handling or can humi's just do this sometimes? Do I need to toss and get another? I'm not happy.....guess I need one with a lock now! ![]() |

Re: Warped or Dropped Humi?
How long at 61?
Is it back where it started - location - or is it in another place? Air vent on it/by it? Did they have it open a lot ? Checked humidity device? Don't know what you use. Can you see whats keeping the lid up? Dollar test? Too many questions for quick answer - but wouldn't give up on it yet - and wouldn't be happy either. |

Re: Warped or Dropped Humi?
Rob,
Suggest again - test the hygro. Maybe they had it out of the box - dropped? Played with? Need to start with the basics and ensure it's reading right. Do you have another to put in and compare with? Boveda test kit? Good luck - let us know how it goes. Rick |

Re: Warped or Dropped Humi?
I have a thompsons and it is one of the most consisten humis I have. However I have dropped one or two humis(on carpeting) and they are never the same after that. They seem to be fragile and start losing rh. I have had to add an additional amount of humiditying and glue some felt around the bottom of top of lid, to kind of seal up.
I have found dropping a humidor is not good for it. LOL Jerry |

Re: Warped or Dropped Humi?
I transferred some of the sticks back to my cooler this morning and the RH came up a little to 63. The felt idea is a good one Jerry...may try that if it won't hold. Rick, I did the dollar test and it is definitely more loose on one side (what I was afraid of!)
Oh well, I needed a nice dry box anyways... |
