Couple of humi questions
Should I rotate my "stock" occasionally so that they all get evenly humid, or is that pretty much a non-issue of the humidor is cedar-lined, has been conditioned properly, and has a good humidifier and calibrated digital hygrometer?
I have a tray with storage underneath. The tray is slotted, but I'm concerned that if most of the slots are covered with cigars, the sticks underneath don't get as much humidification as those on top. I have a Paradigm humidifier that's attached to the underside of the lid. Next question... I buy a lot of singles and most are wrapped in cellophane. Should I keep them in the cellophane or remove them as I place them in the humi. Thx, K |

Re: Couple of humi questions
Rotating stock is all a matter of personal preference. I personally do not feel that it is needed, some do it religiously.
Same with the cello. It makes no difference either way. One plus of keeping it on is that it helps protect the wrapper from damage caused by handling. As far as I know there is no advantage to taking it off except some people like the look of naked sticks in their humidor. Also, cello is permeable which means it breathes. It will allow humidity and air to get to the cigars. Another thing, humidity rises. I prefer to have my humidification medium on the bottom and middle area of my box.

Re: Couple of humi questions
I rotate my stock from time to time. More so just to keep tabs on my investment and verify no mold, no beetles, etc..Besides, I enjoy it. Kind of like sorting through a baseball collection.
As for cello on or off, I leave it on. The cello does a great job of protecting the wrappers. I have buggered wrappers by dropping cigars or nit being careful when I dug around looking for something. Besides, theres nothing better than sending an old stick to a BOTL and hearing the "yellow cello" comments! |

Re: Couple of humi questions
I do not make it a point to rotate my cigars, although it happens naturally at times by combing thru them. Most humidors aren't big enough to have problems with one location being better then the next, and those that are big enough usually have multiple humidity sources, fans, etc.
As far as the cello, I go by the old standard of you keep em how you bought them. Someone else who cares just as much if not more about the condition of the product has already made the decision for you. I believe in my experience that the cello does in fact protect the cigars from changes in humidity. While at the same time, if you system is well set-up they should be fine naked. If you like the appeal of a humidor full of naked cigars, I would suggest keeping them in the cello until you understand how your humidor works (what type of humidity device works the best, seasonal changes, number of cigars, etc.) |

Re: Couple of humi questions
Everything you asked is going to go on personal preference. Myself I do rotate my boxes once a month but never touch my singles. As far as the singles themselves I always take them out of the cellophane. That does not make it right or wrong however.

Re: Couple of humi questions
I rotate my cigars when I'm rearranging the humi occasionally. I remove the cello personally. It just 1 less barrier. Plus, the Cubans don't use cello.

Re: Couple of humi questions
To resolve any issues on humidity why not leave your current Paradigm in place on top and get some beads for the bottom.
As to Cello - I'm with those who leave the cigar in my humi as it comes in - if cello, I leave it on. Rotation - I move them around as new purchases come in, no planned rotation per se. Actually it's all up to you . Enjoy the humi (and it's contents). |

Re: Couple of humi questions
Mine get rotated as I rummage around deciding what to smoke at the time.
don't think it matters much unless you have several stacked together

Re: Couple of humi questions
Thanks everyone. I figured the cellophane was more for distibution purposes... selling singles in a B&M and portability from the store to the humidore.
But once home, cello comes off. K |
