ST DuPont Question

I've been thinking about ponying up to get an S.T Dupont X-Tend. I know a few of you have bought them and I was wondering if there is anything special about their lighter fluid, or if any quality fluid would work on this particular lighter?

Re: ST DuPont Question

I thought when I was researching them I read here you should only use ST DuPont fluid. FWI ST DuPont makes several fluids and one is specific to the X-Tend.

Re: ST DuPont Question

I love my X-Tend lighter, one thing I have noticed is that not all butane works, some cans I have tried (when out somewhere and I run out of butane) the tip did not fit the X-Tend lighter.

Re: ST DuPont Question

What about Vector butane? It games with several plastic nosels. Bottom line, if this lighter doesn't work on anything other than special X-tend butane, then I can't buy it. I don't live in a big town and don't feel like special ordering butane every time I need it.

Re: ST DuPont Question

You should consider Dupont's warranty....if you use anything other than there butane and you have a problem with the lighter, I'm sure that it will void their warranty my brother.

Re: ST DuPont Question

S.T. Dupont suggests only using their fuel. Can be readily found on websites around the internet. I would suggest using only high quality multiple refined butane. I have had good luck with vector and its cheap for a large can, refined 5 times.
As far as warranty goes, S.T. Dupont only warranty their lighters for 2 years, and all of them last that long. X-tend might only have 1 year warranty, its their cheapest lighter they offer. Servicing only costs $100, but x-tends are throw away lighters, as I believe that they will not repair them after warranty runs out.
It may seem like a lot of money to spend $400-900 on a lighter, but they will last a life time.
