they sell the bags on the site. Even a little overpriced d.s. empty plastic vile. For good ness sakes, you think they could throw one of those 10 cent viles in or the bag, for the price of those beads.
Those beads sell for so many times more then they cost to buy in quantity. SEriously you would be surprised on how little a thousand pounds of the beads cost at wholesale to a big purchaser.
Sorry for another one of my rants.

Sorry, Jerry, but Im worn out with the cost of HF beads thing. They cost what they cost. They do what they do. Sure, theyre wildly more expensive than raw beads, but... what price convenience?

Only thing that miffs me is that they ship in bubble mailers. I end up with a teaspoon of silt from every half-pound. Not a big loss, but a hassle to shake out before charging and putting in mesh.

Rh up to 74. I took a half ounce of untreated beads, and mixed it in with the others. Will see what happens. If these beads work, they should definately be enough to absord any extra rh.
When I open the humi the rh immediately dromps down to about 68 in only a few seconds. No reason with the addition of these dry beads, rh shouldnt drop? Do I have this right?

Re: Beads experiment #1

In theory, yeah, but I still dunno what kind of beads youre talking about, or what %RH theyre rated.

Your assumption that placing cigars back in the box would lower RH is actually inverse. Decreasing volume inside the box (by installing cigars) will actually raise RH temorarily. More moisture in less space.

Finally, assuming youre using 65-70% beads, it sounds to me that that humi was a little over humidified to begin with. Personally, Id leave it open for a day or two and start over with the beads. You may or may not have installed enough dry beads to absorb the excess.

Uh, are you confusing me with someone else???? I do not recall ever complaining about the cost of beads, till mentioning in this thread......
And I never compared heartfelt beads to any other. I picked up the 2 oz packets, because I was putting in a four hundred dollar order from the web site I mentioned, and thought for a few bucks more I would experiment with some beads for my scientific curiosity.
I dont even know what raw beads are that you mentioned. Please show where I have complained before about cost of beads????
Money at this stage in my life is more or less meaningless. If I want almost anything, I can purchase it in cash without thinking. I do not abuse my money and will not be taken unfairly.
If I wanted to buy a maserati, I could go tomorrow and chuck down 250,000 and not change my lifestyle one bit. I can do his and hers and it wouldnt matter. Not bragging, but my wife and I stayed in one home for multiple decades, always invested are money in our children, and in investments and have done good. I take the long and slow approach. On stocks, I but in good companies at low prices and let them sit and never sell.
Such as microsoft, yahoo, i.b.m and such, with a mix of high yielding bonds paying over 8 percent a year. Money doubles every 8 years at this dividend rate. A 10,000 investment today, would be worth, 160,000 32 years later.
So please dont accuse me of complaining constantly on the price of beads. I think you got the wrong man.
Im out Jerry

Jerry, I think Don is saying he is tired of all the talk about the fact that they cost a little more...not just in this thread...I have no probs with you doing research...I guess its just a little frustrating not knowing what type of beads you have and knowing what we have works without any second thought...

The nice thing is, you cant have "too many" beads... but my recommendation for your Trivoli is to get a Cigar Oasis + 1lb of beads. All cabinets (small or large) should have SOME sort of fan for air circulation.

Re: Beads experiment #1

Jerry, I'll throw my 2 cents in with the rest here. One thing I've noticed with the beads is that they definitely take longer to lower RH than to raise it. With that said, once they're stable, they're rock solid. If you're humi's starting out too humid, it may actually take some time to pull the moisture from the cedar.
Personally I buy my beads from Heartfelt and also Cigarmony, I try to support both BOTL's. (Cigarmony does include a free mesh bag with their bulk beads.)

Re: Beads experiment #1

I will ask my cousin next time I see her about what they use at her workplace. She is working to be a museum curator. I know that they use humidification-regulator beads in her line of work. I'm *guessing* that only a few of our cigar collections are actually worth the same as museum-quality artifacts.

In the mean time, for anyone with enough spare time/boredom, I found this to be an interesting read... The things I do to procrastinate homework!

You say "I am hoping for perfection at 70 rh, for weeks at a time". Well my beads only need hydrating every 3 - 4 months! And I am in my coolers several times a day.
? how often do you add water in WINTER when the heat is on and humi levels very low ??. i use oasis electric must add water twice a week in winter

You don't mention what you're using for a humidor, but it sounds to me like a serious leak. You might want to do the dollar bill test and check for leaks that way.
Once you get the leak resolved (if there is one) add some beads to the humi, it will help the Oasis recover quicker after it's been opened.
