cooler humi question

Hey guys,

I have a quick question about a temporary cooler humi. My first batch of cigars came yesterday...a total of about 75. Anyway my humi is not finished seasoning so I placed an extra bag of the heartfelt 65% beads in a cooler and placed the cigars in as well. I thought this would do the trick until I checked the sensor a few hours later and it read 80% humidity and climbing...what the h%$# did I do wrong!!!

Based on the amount of info given:

1.) You may not have enough beads

2.) Your hygrometer may be off

3.) The cigars may have been too humid when you received them

4.) You may have the beads in one corner of the cooler and the hygrometer in the other or at the very top of the cooler, try dividing them and spreading them around and place the hygro in the middle center of the cooler.

If you have enough beads, take the beads out and spread them on a cookie sheet & use a hair dryer on LOW to dry the beads until they are milky white.
Lather, rinse & repeat until the beads absorb enough excess moisture.

Hope this helps

The cooler is small so I don't think the size of the cooler is too much for the beads that I have....as for checking them I don't think that is possible...they came in the metal container that Viper sells and I don't think you can open that to check. Maybe the cigars were too toasty from being in the UPS truck and I needed to let them air out a bit to cool them off before I put them in an enclosed environment????? Heck I don't know I'm learning as I go!!

I got a cruise missle from RGD (Ron) and the smokes were really warm when I opened them. They made my humi spike for several hours until they levelled off. Leave the beads out until they stabilize and try it again. Put them in a cool place, though, and maybe crack the lid.

Re: cooler humi question

I'd just open the top of the cooler for a day or so and then recheck

Re: cooler humi question

Thanks guys!

I try leaving the cooler open for several hours and see if I can get things calmed down a bit.
