Torch Lighter

So I got this new Colibri torch lighter for subscribing to cigar magazine. I was filling it with butane and I always wonder. How do you know it is full. I just give it about 4 or 5 shots of 5 seconds each.

Re: Torch Lighter

I was just filling the Xikar lighter I bought this afternoon and was wondering the same thing.

I pretty much just did the same thing you did.

duh, I have never read the instructions that come with a lighter until now.

4. To check if the tank is full, hold the lighter in vertical upside down position and depress filler valve with ballpoint pen or small screwdirver. If liquied is expelled, stop immediately, the tank is filled to capacity.

Many will spray back a little as you are filling when they reach capacity.

Re: Torch Lighter

I just filled my lighter and I could see the butane going in; however, when it was full, I noticed that "smoke" (butane) was escaping from the nozzle at the point of entry while I was depressing it into the lighter. This "smoke" (butane) will escape only when the lighter is full.

I tried this with another lighter and the same situation occurred.

Hopefully this helps.

Both of my lighters are metal and I cannot see the butane going on. I haven't seen the smoke thing happen either.

So if the tank is only partially full, butane won't escape when the valve is opened? Who wrote THAT instruction?

I hope the lighter works for you, I've had a lot of people bringing in broken Colibri tourches. Good Luck

edit: An after thought...make sure you wait 5 mins or so after filling the lighter so the vapors can fill the lighter.

Oh, by the way....I got one of those lighters as a freebie too, and it lit maybe three times. I don't even count it among the three other Colibri lighters I have that don't work.

Re: Torch Lighter

i have a Colibri "Elite Flint" with a lifetime waranty that has worked great, but it isn't ideal for lighting cigars. It's kind of a knock off of a DuPont. I love it.

The Colibri Torch lighter that I had was JUNK. Even when using premium butane. It stopped working after the first week of use. Hell, even my drug store cheapy $3.99 torch still works...a lot longer than the Colibri did.

I jumped on the bandwagon and bought a Blazer Micro Pocket Torch (PB-207) - It's an outstanding lighter. Reliable with a surgical flame. Plus the resevoir on the bottom makes it easy to see if it is full. Awesome Lighter.

I will let you know if mine is still working. I have another Colibri torch lighter that I have had for several months. It still works fine. It has to be bleed and refilled about once every 10 days or so but still works good.
