Re: Vertical or Horizontal sticks in humi?

I have my boxes stacked in two columns at the bottom of my Vicksburg. That leaves a tall gap in between them that's just tall and wide enough for two of my huge bead tubes to stand on end. After I started running out of room everywhere else I started standing up extra smokes in there too. Seems to be working well for me so far. I just wouldn't do it to a non-celloed cigar but beyond that I think vertical vs. horizontal is overthinking it a bit

Re: Vertical or Horizontal sticks in humi?

I just don't think that placing them in the humi vertically would be good for the tobacco. They're stacked horizontally during the aging process by the tobacco companies, so that how I do it, too. Also, it could seriously damage the foot if there's shifting, which would lead to it scraping against the bottom.

6x2 - 5x - 6 = 6 - 6

6x2 - 5x - 6 = 0

The left side can be written as

6x2- 9x + 4x - 6 = 0.

That is,

3x(2x - 3) + 2(2x - 3) = 0

(3x + 2)(2x - 3) = 0

Using the Zero-Product Property, set each factor equal to 0.

So,

(3x + 2) = 0 or (2 x - 3) = 0.

3x = -2 or 2x = 3

The solution set is "horizontal".
I was told there wasn't going to be any math!

I stand boxes on end to make room, but don't think I'd stand singles on end unless they're cello wrapped.

What in the Hell?-- how about we say just leave them on the side! If you are having a space issue, go buy another humidor.

Re: Vertical or Horizontal sticks in humi?

I would not do it since it could raise temps in your humidor. The reason for that is that the angle of the dangle is directly proportional to the heat of the meat. Moral of this story is to store your ceegars flat and do not store a steak in your humi. Could raise the temp to 80. I have no idea what I just said but enjoy. Paul

Re: Vertical or Horizontal sticks in humi?

I always leave mine horizontal. Don't ask me why, it just seemed like the right thing to do at the time.

Re: Vertical or Horizontal sticks in humi?

You guys disappoint me.

The solution is rather obvious.

Burn 'em, and keep the ashes in an urn. The urn can be any shape or size of your choosing. The ashes won't care, although I understand ashes prefer lower humidity.

Re: Vertical or Horizontal sticks in humi?

I read somewhere that several of the top level wrist-watch manufacturers have developed a tourbillon mechanism which allows the inner machinery of the watch to float freely inside the case.

If you contact some of these manufacturers I'm absolutely certain that they could adapt this new technology for the inside of a humidor. It would eliminate the friction of the foot against the floor, but there would be the disadvantage of the slight variance in vertical tilt, depending on barometric pressure, wind chill etc.

I believe a variance of 5 degrees or less does not affect the draw, but more than that could place undue pressure on one of the edges.

Interestingly, maduros are not as affected, and testing is currently underway on various claros and sun growns... Larry.

Without a doubt there's times when placing gars in the humidor vertically would maximize space, help organize, and protect the integrity of cello-less sticks, no diggin under other gars to get at what you're after.

Seems vertical has it's advantages, but I never see it done. How come?
I have stored some of my sticks verticle for years and have never had a problem. I have also used cigar jars with absolutly no problem, both with the cello on the stick and the cello off. I guess if you are one that has to continually play with your sticks, they could get damaged vertically. But then again, they could get damaged horizontally, too. If you store them and leave them alone, they will be OK.

Re: Vertical or Horizontal sticks in humi?

If you store them vertically all the flavor will run down to one end and you are stuck with the dilemna of head down or foot down. If you think the cello on or off debate is incessant just think of how often the head or foot question would surface! People debating flavor first or flavor last could cause a great schism in the cigar world.

For goodness sakes store the cigars on their side!
