Torch Filling Help

Could someone post some tips or how-to's on refilling a torch. I know it seems like a simple thing but for some reason I seem to be emptying my torch instead of filling it!!

Re: Torch Filling Help

I have had this problem... sometimes the tube on the top of the can is not quite big enough to easily fit over the nipple at the center of the valve on the bottom of the lighter. Had to maneuver it a bit and make sure it was well centered... then I was able to fill it. It is supposed to be a standard measurement, but some cans (or some lighters) are just a little off.

Keep at it... you'll get it!

Re: Torch Filling Help

The biggest problem I had was I wasn't letting out all the air before I refilled my lighter.

Once I figured that out, refills became a snap.

Re: Torch Filling Help

purge the lighter (press in on the refill valve w/a pen till no more air comes out)-turn the lighter to it's lowest setting-turn it upsidedown, press the butane in for 6 sec, press in again-when gas comes back out it's full-BTW, if you put the lighter in the freezer b4 you fill, it seems like you get more gas in there

Absolutely true about the freezer bit. Getting your lighter cold makes filling it much easier.

Ever notice how the butane coming out of the can is cold? Well, that's what it's doing inside your lighter too when you go to fill it. Constantly allowing the butane to change the temp of the lighter introduces moisture into it from the little bit of air that may enter upon filling or that may already be in there.

If the lighter is already cold there isn't a temperature change from the gas when you refill it.

Just push down a bit harder with the can of butane, it sounds like youre pushing down hard enough to open the valve of the lighter but not hard enough for the butane to come out of the can.
