DIY (do it yourself) Hooking up Computer Fans to your Humi
Hey guys, I just wanted to do a DIY, for you guys. It's very easy to do and I'll do a step by step, how to Hook-up computer fans the EASY way, to circulate the air. With this setup you can hook up MULTIPLE Computer fans, all the way up to probably Unlimited fans.
Computer fans hook-up: Materials - Computer fans (as many as you like) - Used Working Computer Power supply ( I bought 1 at Fry's for $40.00) - Speaker Connector (that has a Positive and Negative Terminal) -Wire (depending how far you need it) -Butt Connectors and Crimpers -Electrical Tape. Step 1 - Splice the Computer connectors off the Computer fans Step 2 - BE VERY CAREFUL, NOT TO LET THE 2 METAL OR CONNECTOR to Touch, you will be SHOCKED ! DO NOT PLUG IN POWER SUPPLY YET, NOT TILL YOUR DONE !!!!!!! - "Jump" the power connector of the power supply. In the pics. The power connector is the plug that plugs into the motherboard. Shown here in pics. ![]() ![]() -AFTER WRAP THE CONNECTOR in ELECTRICAL TAPE, VERY GOOD, SO NO part of the connector is expose or the wire ! Step 3 - Hook up Computer Fans (Connector that came with the fans), to the 1 of the plugs of the Power Supply ![]() Step 4 - Measure how long you need the wires, and use your butt connectors to match up + and - on the speaker terminal ![]() Step 5 - Hook up the computer fans + and - to the speaker Terminal. ALL DONE ! Fans should be working just fine. if you want you can hook up a SWITCH or a Thermostat 9if your electrically inclined, which im not hahaa) ALL done for around $50.00 or so, and whats good is the power supply already has a built in power supply and the setting is set on low. So, NO NOISE from the PS, and less electricity ! Good Luck BOTL chris

All I did was buy a 12 volt adapter like this
![]() then a 2 prong plug like the muti tips on the adapter use, wired that right to a 80mm PC fan like this: All this cost less than 20 bucks, with Multible speeds when you select a lower voltage on the Adapter. here it is plugged in and installed. |

I like your bead setup, with the drain going right in the bowl and then the fan for circulation. Simple, yet I am sure effective.

Yes Very effective, I had alot of condensation dripping off the cold sink at the back of the unit. Because my apartment is so warm the cooler was running alot and sucking the humidity out of the air. Not a big problem if I kept on spraying my beads and emptying the collection tray on the backside of the cooler. But I thought why not just have the water drain right back in? Now the fan runs 24/7 and blows across 2 bowls, My RH drops to the low 50's and goes up to the High 60's. But inside my boxes it only fluctuates about 4%.
