Priming a Humidor
I received my 300 count humidor on friday and placed a small cup of boiling water in it. Came in this morning and the RH is around 77%. Question is should I put the credo in now along with my cigars or just the cigars and wait till the RH is at 70 and then put in the credo?
Any help would be appreciated. |

Re: Priming a Humidor
i suggest leaving it without the credo let it stabilize a bit more say till 73% RH then add the credo with the 50/50 solution so it could soak in the excess moisture and get it down to RH 65-70%. what i really recommend are some humibeads they make the job a ton easier. you can get them at www.heartfeltindustries.com you should also invest in a digital hygrometer they work wonders also.

Re: Priming a Humidor
Too High Amigo, You'll split the cigar! wait for another 12hrs. see if the RH will go down, If not insert a piece of cedar. BTW double check your Hygrometer also.

Re: Priming a Humidor
Thanks guys...Im doing the salt test now and after 6 hours its sitting at 72 so its not too far off.
I think Im going to take the cup of water out and put the hygrometer in and wait wait till its about 70 add the credo and let things stablize a day. |

Re: Priming a Humidor
Just an update. Got a digital hygrometer and thermometer last night and what a difference. RH is at 70 and temp at 72. Just wet down the credo with distilled water and placed it in the humidor. Havent put any cigars in yet and really dont know when I should. Im sure Im making this much more complicated than it has to be but Im really shooting in the dark here.

Re: Priming a Humidor
Let it sit for a day, 72 deg and 70% humidity sounds really good for cigars though. If it's consistent for 24 hours load it up!!

I'm a 65/65 man.........I like to smoke em' between 60-65 Rh (wet cigars taste like imho)..........I try to never let the temp get above 68 degrees. I've heard (never witnessed) that anything above 70 degrees is looking for trouble (beetle-wise).![]()

Re: Priming a Humidor
let it sit with the hygrometer and the credo. when you add the cigars the RH may drop some because they do take in some of the humidity

Re: Priming a Humidor
Hello, New to this forum
I just purchased my first humidor, International Development Corporation, the blue one. The instructions say "With a fresh sponge dampened with distilled water, thoroughly wet the entire interior of the humidor. Leave the damp sponge in the humidor resting on a plastic bag". The salesman at the cigar store prepped the box. He opened the box and sprayed (spray bottle) some distilled water on every piece of cedar inside the box. He stated to do this 2 more times every 10 days. After I got home, I did some more research and....yes you got it...found that a lot of people say DO NOT wet the inside down....no mater what technique you use. Well, I can say that after reading a lot of posts/sticky's on the subject, I now...after 2 days....have a shot glass of distilled water setting in the bottom of the humidor. I guess that I will fill the glass up a time or two and take a reading with my salt calibrated digital hygrometer. I did notice a bit of a stain on the bottom (inside) of the humidor...presumably from the salesmans squirting of the water. Thoughts and additions? http://www.cigar2u.com/Results.tpl?r...1289&startat=1 Last edited by Captmike; 04-24-2005 at 01:38 PM.. |
