Spanish Cedar for Cooler-idor

I was just wondering how much I need, as I've just set up my first cooleridor due to extensive casualties incurred by recent atomic detonations.

Right now, all I have is 2 sheets (paper thin) that were in between layers in a cigar box.....I guess they are about 10" x 8". I've got these on the 2 biggest walls of the cooler; with nothing on the ends, bottom, top, or remaining area of the large sides.

Is this enough to have the desired effect for about 200 loose cigars?

Do I need to have the inside "mostly lined" with it? Or is just having a bit in there good enough?

- Still shell-shocked -

What MiamiE said. I'd put the two sheets on the floor of the unit, just to have some separation from the plastic interior. That's just me, tho'. They'll probably be fine where they are. Maybe you can cajole your local tobbaconist out of some more sheets, (or maybe some empty boxes...ALOT of empty boxes ).

What kind of humidity device are you using, out of curiosity?

Regards,
S.

Right now I have the Drmistat Gel thingy and a regular "Credo" supplementing it. I do, however plan to get some Climmax beads from Viper139 soon. i drop my digital humidor in ther for a while, and I'll be darned if it isn't holding right at 66%......I must be lucky or something!!

I saw those Spanish Cedar trays at bargainhumidor, and they look pretty sweet. That's probably the route I'll go in the future. They look to be just the right size. For now, though, I'll have a tough time convincing the wife to let me spend 9.99 x 6 or 8 for them, though....and I'll drop by the lcoal shop and see if he has some cedar sheets laying around. (hadn't thought of that....!!)

Thanks for the advice.....and yes, there was MUCHO devastation at my home!! I'm planning on sharing some of my new-found wealth soon....just need to budget in some postage.....(yeah, it's that tight around her right now.... )

I think even if you can only manage to get a hold of a couple of empty boxes, you should be good to go with that setup for a while. I'm pretty much running the same setup as you are right now with the humidification and it seems to be working out fine.

Re: Spanish Cedar for Cooler-idor

I've got a 72 qt cooler full and my RH stays at 66-67% with 1 lb of beads. I didn't line it with cedar, I just keep all my smokes in their boxes and I bought two spanish cedar trays from bargain humidors to keep my singles in.

This setup works great for me.

Hey Uni bounce-bounce-bounce.....oh.
I have some old cedar boards 3 of 24" x 5 1/2" and two small ones 2 1/2 x 24". Let me know and there yours. Got them years ago on E-Bay, (Great place to buy cheap boards) and was going to build a humidor. Well thats been five years ago, so you might as well get use out of them. Also, just store your gars in Cedar boxes like the others do, does a great job. I store my non-N/C's in my Humidor in them. If you need some Empty Boxes let me know, Don

I'm using the same exact setup and it's working great. In fact, I'm getting ready to set up another cooler the same way.
