my humidor problem

hey all.

i have a really nice humidor, at least that is my opinion! i never liked the glossy look of most, and i found the perfect one at restoration hardware back in 1997 or so. it is a 50 count with a divider. nice dark color, some day i can post pics.

anyway, i purchased a credo percision 70 for it and ditched the little round one (again, all back in 1997). i also purchased a radio shack digital hydgrometer, which has served me well.

i also had a analog one, as the look is nice. well, i have had problems getting the things to stay stuck. the humidity of the humidor keep causing the glue to come undone. what have people used with success?

also, i am still using the same credo unit, and use the chemical solution (i forget what it is called again) but i am wondering if these go bad and it is time for a new one. at this point i don't have more than 25-35 cigars in it at a time.

any thoughts would be appeciated. my humidor is about to get a new box of nat shermans, so i want it good to go! at this point i think i will have to sand down the top (to get rid of the old glue residue) and try and start from scratch.

thanks.

Re: my humidor problem

heres what i recommend contact me through PM. if you have a small humidor like that i can give you a humibead tube that i have and no longer need since i upgraded to a larger humidor. it should be good for 50 cigars. itll keep your RH around 65% which is perfect. all you have to do is add i teaspoon of DISTILLED WATER ONLY. not the 50/50 solution!

Hmm, I'm not really sure you should be using glue??.. mine's set up with velcro.

About the glue, do you find that the smell from the glue is transferring over to your cigars?

Re: my humidor problem

If everything's working OK, I don't think you'll need to change anything. You'll encounter a drop in the humidity when you add the new stuff, so a little added ditilled water may be in order if it doesn't self correct.

You CAN use glue to attatch your credo, but it doesn't look like it's working. I've used crazy glue to mount some velcro to my credo, (outside the humi until it's dry), which doesn't make it stick, but gives it a snug fit in the cut-out depression.

Re: my humidor problem

i took some pics, but now i have to upload them so you can see.

the credo has a magnetic connection. so the magnet is glued to the humidor, and the credo sticks by magnet. the hydromiter is attached with velcro, but the velcro is attached by glue. i thought i was going to solve it b/c i made two little tacks and actually tacked the velcro to the humidor so it wouldn't fall off. but then the glue adhering the velcro to the hydromiter came apart.

i guess i will just have to try again. i'll see how these humi-beads work too. my humidor has always been a little high on the humidity (more like 70 to 75%) so i will be interested to see how the beads work. and yes, i calibrated my electronic one so i know it is accurate!

They work great. They come in two levels of humidity control -- 65% and 70%. To fit your smoking preference.

You should read this thread:

That has everything you need to know about the beads, their use and care.

I used the 50/50 credos in my desk top humidor for a couple of years -- always a pain in the arse if you ask me. I had the same problems with the glue and constant humidity control was next to impossible. It never drifted to any extremes, just not steady. I'd say i had about a +/- 5% range.

I switched to the beads recently and it has been 65%, rock solid, ever since.

Re: my humidor problem

Are you guys using the beads that come in the preforated tubes? I was looking at this for my small desktop humidor.

I think beads rock in a sealed environment like a coolidor or a well made humi. I have a couple of large wooden Cab's that do not have perfect seals. Use active huidification plus the beads. Faster recovery time and no need to ever recharge the beads unless there is a long term power failure. 65% recovery within 30 minutes after I leave it open for a few.

i got a pound of them and placed some of them in a jar for my desk top.
I keep the rest of them in my end table that has active humidification like DaKlugs.
