Fullness of humidor and humidity.

I was wondering if a less full humidor will have a higher or lower humidity than a full one? I know a full one maintains the enviornment but thats not what i'm lookign for.

I don't believe the fullness will affect the humidity level... your humidifier, solution level and quality of your humidor are the factors in humidity level (along with other minor factors like room humidity, temperature, frequency of opening, etc.)... it will just make it slightly easier to maintain because of less open air volume... however on all but large humidors this effect would probably be neglible... just my 2 cents worth

First welcome to CS. There is an introductions section on the forum where you can introduce yourself to the group. The humidor will be more stable when it is fuller, however if you have a calibrated hygrometer(s) that is reading let's say 65%, the humidity should be the same wether it is full or empty.

Some anecdotal evidence to the contrary:

A) Yesterday morning, my coolerdor, (with 1 box of Partagas Cifuentes, a 50 count ERDM box that holds my 40 FdO's, and 2 Alec Bradley boxes for singles, and a handful of additional loose sticks) read 63%. There was quite a bit of room left over.

Last night, I recieved one box of Gol!s, one box of ERDM Robusto Largas, one box of Partagas SR San Agustin's and 2 boxes of Padron Fumas, filling the available space. This morning my hygrometer read 69%.

B) My desktop generally reads 62-64%, as it did last night. I needed to move some loose sticks from my coolerdor to my desktop to make a little more room for the boxes, maybe 10 sticks total, using up 5-10 % of the total huidor volume. This morning, the hygrometer read 68%.


The coolerdor uses a Cigar Oasis, the desktop uses 2 regular sized credos. No additional humidification was added to either.


Now, the new boxes could have been highly humidified when shipped, and the loose cigars were stored at a higher RH than those in the humi. BUt I also remember reading somewhere about filled dead space raising RH levels. I have no reference, tho'.
