How do you rehydtate your beads

One of my humidors is a draw type having 5 draws which hold 25 sticks in each. In each I put a 1 ounce tube of Vipers beads, I know this is overkill but it works. Once a week I have to rehydrate them back to 70% clear because they are only 30-40% clear every Sunday. I use a spay bottle to rehydrate them. How ofton do you have to rehydrrate yours?

are you using a hygrometer?

Personally, I wouldn't go by the look of the beads to determine when to add water.

I haven't added water, I think, all summer to my beads, and my humis are rock steady at 63% using 65% beads, and the cigars are smoking great.

Re: How do you rehydtate your beads

I haven't re-hydrated mine since february, the beads are probably 90% white, but the hygro reads a consistent 63-65% so I don't mess with it, and the sticks smoke perfectly

get a good hygro and trust it, not the appearance of the beads

Re: How do you rehydtate your beads

Even in very dry Colorado, my beads go many months without needing any moisture added. I don't go by appearance - I can't remember whether clear is wet or dry. I have a good digital hygrometer in each of my 3 coolers. With 65% beads, if the humidity drops to 62, I'll mist a little distilled water on the beads.

Are you opening and closing the humi a lot? That could be drying out the environment.

Maybe you should try to reseason it again.

When I keep the lid closed on a properly seasoned humidor I can go many months without recharging the beads. They are really a great product. I usually suggest extra beads when folks are having trouble, but it seems like you have enough.

I apologize for not directly answering your question in my last post. I do a light mist from a spray bottle when they need recharging.

Re: How do you rehydtate your beads

Most humidors with drawers have a tendancy to leak more than humidors with a lid. I am not saying that your humidor leaks but this may account for why you're needing to re-hydrate more often.

Misting them with a spray bottle is the safest way to re-hydrate the beads. Since you are definately using them to add moisture you can re-hydrate them to 90-95% of the beads clear and still be OK.

This is the method I use. I just went to Wal-Mart, in the shampoo aisle they carry travel size spray bottles. These are perfect small and cost less than a dollar. Grab a gallon jug of distilled water, and you are set.!
