Coleman coolador (electric)

Well I just found out my roomate owns this thing so I put my humidor inside it to see how far the temp will drop. He told me it'll take it down about 30 degree below its ambient temperature, which would make it go down to about 50 degree if that's true.

Too cold ?

Has anyone heard of people hooking up a thermostat to this too?

Re: Coleman coolador (electric)

UPDATE:

I've been keeping the unit with my humidor inside and the lid open (on the cooler) about 3 inches to prevent it from getting too cold. When I left it shut for 2 hours my RH in my humidor dropped to 59% and temp was at 64 degrees.

RH is hitting around 63% with temp around 65 with the lid open a little bit. is 63% too low? I also placed a divider between the compression unit and the humidor to prevent it from drawing too much air away from the humidor directly and dropping the RH.

Will tupperware be better in retaining RH/sealing? If so, I may just swing by my cigar shop, pick up some cedar and stick my cigars in tupperware for the summer.

lol! I'm hoping someone with more brains than me will experiment with bringing the cooling unit out of the cooler and rig it for a cabinet humidor.

No more brains but have mine on the workbench here now. Gotta find an ac based thermostat to plug this baby into.

Are you using a thermostat to have it shut on/off? How are you regulating the humidity?

Re: Coleman coolador (electric)

Thinking about the need for an external thermostat for controlling this coolador, I realized I've used an external refrigerator thermostat when converting a top loading freezer into a kegerator. It sounds this would be perfect for this situation... you can plug the coolador into this thermostat and then just set it to the desired temp... take a look...
