75% RH? What gives?

Based on input from BOTL's on this forum I ordered humidity beads (Heartfelt Industries) quite a while back at 65% RH and have had no problems. (Thanks By the way)

Well, I was apparently operating in a deranged state or something and I took the old floral foam humidifier that has been sitting in the beads dry and recharged it when I soaked the beads.

Next thing I know the RH jumped to 75%. Oops. Evidently, I should not have done that. I removed the floral foam and left only the beads. Still at 71% the next day. My question is whether I have over saturated the beads? Or, can that occur even? I have even left the humidor open for a while periodically today with no real effect. Any suggestions?

Yes you can over hydrate your beads. Do you have dry beads in there to soak up extra humidity? If I were you I would dry out your beads and start over, pay close attention to all of the instructions on heartfelt. In a day you will be back in business. Hope this helps.

Re: 75% RH? What gives?

I think when you recharged the foam it gave a humidity shock to your humi. I'd give it a few days if you haven't already and it should stabilize. When you rewet your beads I am assuming you used water and not the PG solution. If you over wet your beads to a point of being 100% soaked, then you may need to dry them out a little with a blowdryer(make sure they are in a mesh bag) or slowly in the oven(low temp). If they are soaked there is no way for them to absorb the excess humidity that the foam may have caused.

Thanks for the quick replies. I just read on their website: "The 2 ounce humi tube takes 3-4 teaspoons of distilled water." I basically dropped it in a bowl of water. Had never done that before. I think I will dry it out a bit as suggested then switch over to the spray bottle method for recharging the beads. Thanks again.

Spray bottle is what I use. I have a tray in my cooler that I have beads in and when they get dry all I do is a couple sprays with the water and forget about it. In my humi it's the same deal, but no dish. I use a puck and I converted my foam humidifier to beads and just a couple sprays through the screen.
