Beads or Oasis

I'm eyeing a larger humidor to organize the various smaller ones I have now.

If I could turn back time, i woulda listened to the wise gorillas and bought way bigger the first time and saved all the hassle of tupperdors and numerous desktops.

Anyway, moving forward, I am looking at about a 500 ct and am debating an Oasis for humidification.

Is it much more trouble to stick with beads on a larger humi or should I get the oasis I am seeing for around 100 bucks?

Another bonus I see with the oasis, besides the set and forget, is the fact that you turn it on and don't need to season a larger humi if I understand correctly.

Anyway, thanks for the info I am guessing will pour in.

Re: Beads or Oasis

I don't have any experience with an Oasis, but I have 2 pounds of beads in my 100 quart coolidor. My coolidor seems to stay considerably more stable than my two 200 ct desktop humi's, which each have 4 oz's of beads in them. So in my limited experience, the beads tend to work better in larger spaces. I don't know if this holds true for other Gorilla's.

Yes

I use both in my humidors. I always enjoy having redundant safeguards to prevent system failure.

Dam, I have to stop watching the Discovery channel.

DEFINITELY still need to properly season your humidor bro, it will save you headaches later

I actually use a passive system AND the RH Beads to help regulate RH levels throughout the cabinets. Cabinets tend to have pockets of RH variance and the RH Beads helps even them out.

I hope this helps

Re: Beads or Oasis

An Oasis can be used to "speed-season" a humidor. They work best in combo with beads in areas where its so dry that you would otherwise need to add water to your beads more often than you would want to otherwise.

I got my Tower of Power humidor last Monday. I got the Hydra electric humidifier and two pounds of beads to go with it. I've been letting it season all week and will probably put in the cigars tomorrow. We'll see how it goes. I also am using two extra Hydra fans and two Oust fans.

But I do like the idea of redundancy. Hell, I'm almost considering getting another pound of beads, 'just in case'.

Re: Beads or Oasis

If its a normal humidor and not a cabinet-style I'd go with the beads. Its much more cost effective and they really work well. I've got a 300 ct treasure chest humidor and the Heartfelt beads work great. I use the Cigar Oasis and beads in my Vinotemp fridge.

Cigar Oasis will recover RH faster from the fridge fan kicking on. I use 1/2 lb of 65% beads and a CO set at 62%....right now I am reading.............69* and 62% humidity.

Re: Beads or Oasis

In my cabinet I use both. Originally I only used the Oasis and it ran a lot, and I filled it with water a lot. Now that I have the beads, it runs much less frequently and seems to hold a steadier Humidity. I like having both as the fan on the Oasis circulates the air.

I spend so much on smokes and spent a good chunk of change on the cabinet as well so I figure why go cheap on the humidification.

Hope that helps.

Re: Beads or Oasis

Would it be beneficial to set the oasis at 70% and get 65% beads to ensure about 67% or what would you all recommend?
