Coolidor Temp
What is the minimum temperature range you would feel comfortable with in storing cigars in a coolidor or any other device for that matter. I realize that this question is somewhat subjective since everyones tastes are different. However, I am more concerned with damage to the smokes through the temperature being too low for a long period.
I recently set up a coolidor and its down in my basement. The RH is at 70, which Id like to lower a bit but the temperature is only at 60 degrees. Im assuming this is too low. I have smoked a few and they burn fine but am curious as to any long term downsides to the lower temperature. Also, should I lower the RH. I can bring them upstairs and into a spare room but am sure I will catch a rash of sh*t from my wife. Besides then she's more apt to peek and actually see how much money I waste on my smokes. And yes Ive used the search and yes it is a wonderful thing. However, Im still not clear as to what effects this will have, if any on the overall health, aging and enjoyment of the cigars. Thanks. Re: Coolidor Temp
I'd say keep the temp at 63 minimum for long-term storage with an optimal of about 65-67. There are people here with more knowledge that me but that's what I would keep it at and it seems the general concensus.
For the humidity the humi-beads are great. |

Re: Coolidor Temp
I've got a coolidaor in the basement also. Mine is 66rh and anywhere from 62 - 68 Degrees F. From what I know the lower temp slows down the aging somewhat but keeps the beetles from hatching. I still learning and soaking up info on this site like a sponge. I'm sure others who are more knowledgeable will have for information.

Re: Coolidor Temp
I like 62-68 degrees. If you see it getting over that. You can move it to a cooler room. This is the advantage of the coolador. It has a little portability to move.

Re: Coolidor Temp
Very low temps are perfect for preserving cigars but not aging them. High temps age them too quickly and you'll wind up with bland tasting cigars after a few years. For me, my perfect temp is 65 thanks to Edisonbird. 65 produces great flavors on aged sticks.
