my new humidor is here

This is my first new humi. The 3 rectangle humidifiers have been in there for only an hour, and my Little Havana already indicates 70%. I would imagine it is a good idea to wait a while before putting any stogies in? Can I put some in tonight? (doubt it) How long should I wait?

Thanks!

I have a seasoning packet that came with it. How long should I leave it in? Should I use the packet along with the rectangle humidifiers? Sorry if these questions sound dumb, as I am brand new to this. (obviously)

Congrats on the new humi.

Give it a good 24hrs before adding any cigars.

That's a nice humidor, but it will take a few days to a week to properly season. Try heating dist. water in a shot glass in a microwave for 15 seconds and place it in the bottom of the humidor. Let it sit until the rh comes down to 70, then fill'er up.

Re: my new humidor is here

Thanks guys! I think I am going to like this hobby! Is it okay to use the seasoning packet along with the shotglass of distilled hot water, as well as the rectangle humidifiers? Is more better, or should I just be doing one or the other?

Yeah, you probably should do one or the other. Since you are using the seasoning packet, use it. I would think it would take longer than the method I described. Patience is the key to seasoning and like I said can take up to a week. After the hygro reads 70ish for four days, I would put the cigars in and keep an eye on the rh. Also, make sure your hygro isn't close to any of the humidification elements to get a true reading.

Re: my new humidor is here

Some people season their humidors for two weeks, others, a few days. I seasoned mine for 3 days and it seems fine. It's smaller than yours though. Give it a few days and see if it stabalizes.

Re: my new humidor is here

How many seasoning packets did you order? I think they're supposed to season your humi in 24 hours if you get quantity you need.. either way always helpful to read the directions.

Before removing the packets charge up the three humidifiers and place them in there you should be on your way then.

As a noob I guess you'll be well served to invest in some beads as they will take the hassle out of maintaining a constant humidity in your new humi and the many investments you plan to fill 'er up with.

Congratulations on a great purchase.

Re: my new humidor is here

Great looking humidor you have there. As long as you are not in a position where you absolutely need a place to put your sticks, give it more time. You can't ever season a humidor but you can under season it.
