Finally Bought A Humidor!

A friend of mine knew someone who built humidors, so he told me he would introduce me to the guy. I met him tonight, and he had two boxes with him. I picked this one. It is tight, makes a wooshing sound when closed, and feels good and solid. Lined with spanish cedar, of course, and it smells delicious. He gave me the box, a credo humidifier and an analog hygrometer for $40. I am planning on getting some beads a digital hygrometer next time i get paid. Any other suggestions?
The inside measures 12x9.5 and is 3 inches deep

Nice looking humidor. However, If you spend enough time around here, you'll need another one in two weeks.

Re: Finally Bought A Humidor!

Yeah I have been seeing this. For all the time I have been smoking cigars, I have been storing them either in a friends humidor or in a tupperdor with a humidification gel. The gel never grew mold on it, thankfully. I have been itching to buy one, but the price of them has been making me hold off. Now that I have this one, however, I am more confident that I can store more cigars over a longer period of time without having to worry about them all the time.

Nice humi! but you wont need to buy another one, just a coleman cooler and some beads for your expansion and aging. ten you put the sticks ready to smoke in your new box, and the rest stay in the cooler. system works very well.

Nice buy JCF. Think about altbier's suggestion of buying a good quality cooler and beads for all cigars you would like to rest a while. It doesn't matter if it's a month or 5 years. If you buy a lot of singles or 5ers, there are plenty of botl's who have empty boxes lying around that you could use for storage in the cooler.

Great looking humidor. I have a Humi for the ready to smoke sticks, a coolidor for the aging sticks, and a third coolidor for incoming stuff. I quarantine all new purchases and other items for a couple weeks to let them rest and make sure they have no beetles etc.

You can also get boxes at the local B&M stores pretty cheap. I got 10 wooden boxes off cbid, with shipping I think it worked out to $3 a box.

Re: Finally Bought A Humidor!

Yeah a cooler and beads should be next I guess. I'm trying to hold off on mass storage for a while though, because I feel like once I commit to it, I'm going to feel compelled to fill it. But I do see it coming, probably pretty soon in the future. So far it has been holding humidity right at 70% (according to the analog hygrometer, which although I calibrated, I know is still not to be trusted.)

Re: Finally Bought A Humidor!

Nice Humi. Good price too if it is a nice fit. I too have 2 humis with a third on the way. A big one (400+) too. I'm thinking maybee a coolerdor would've been sufficient but there's nothing as cool as a nice looking humi. Good luck and if you have any questions theres a ton of graymatter here.

I forgot to say I liked the "staging idea" 5th Dan. I may try that.
