Humi Tubes
Tried lookin around the board and didn't find anything on these neat little devises. Was up at Stag Friday night and saw these cool little tubes that you fill with water and put them into a cigar box after you take out, or as I prefer smoke, 3-4 cigars and it'll turn your cigar box into a little humidor.
Thought this was pretty cool and wondering if anybody has heard of or tried them? If so did they work out alright or just another gadget that wastes $5?

Re: Humi Tubes
For ages I had nutting but a Baccarat DC box and a 'cigar keeper 75' for a humi, and it seemd to work fine. I presume the humi-tubes are like beads/cigar keepers, the lack of a proper seal just means they don't work as efficiently as they should, and you need to keep checking for problems! just my
! I could be incredibly wrong.

Re: Humi Tubes
They sell the humistat tubes at heartfeltindustries.com if that is what you are looking for. If I misinterpreted what you are seeking, well, in the words of Emily Latella..."Never Mind".

Re: Humi Tubes
I actually have one of those little Humi-tubes for up to 10 cigars and it seems to be decent. I put it in my humidor and the hygrometer did raise a few notches. Though those beads seem to be more appealling.

Re: Humi Tubes
They are made by Cigar Savor out of Pompano Beach, Florida and are called Humistat.
They sell from $7.50 on line to $10 at your local shop. They are what I refer to in my post yesterday regarding a cheap and effective humidor (drop them in a box or a Zip Lock bag). |

Re: Humi Tubes
I assume you have the ones that look like they have gel inside? I believe these can only make sure your humidity stays above say 70%, but if your already above that or higher they won't remove excess moisture to get the humidity down.
That's why I like the humidity beads, they actually regulate the humidity and keep it at or near the desired RH. Just my 2 ![]() |

Re: Humi Tubes
Yeah these things are only for adding humidity, no regulatory features. Thought this might be a cool gadget for us that don't have bigass humi's and cooler's and all that. For us PBAM's (Poor Broke Ass Monkey's) a nice little $5 tube that keeps decent RH would be killer.

Re: Humi Tubes
Whether you're using a Drymistatat, a Credo humidification device, or travelling using a mini humidor with its own humidity element you'll find that most such devices will work just fine.
You need to keep one point in mind. The humidification medium contains 50% Ethylene Glycol in order to keep the humidity buffered around 70% at 70 deg. F. If cigars are kept or stored for a long time in close contact with such an atmosphere, the ethylene glycol will eventually impart a slight bitter flavor to the cigars. Doing so for a few hours or a day or two won't affect them much, but for longer storage a larger humidor, or one with hopefully a bit more circulation would be better. Putting them back in a bigger humidor, should alleviate the bitterness problem.
