New Setup with a Hydra

Hey guys...

If you read my first post, I had just joined CS and was waiting for some new equip. I was currently set up with a 100ct-ish burlwood humidor with a standard dist. water passive system.

I ordered the 250ct treasure dome humidor . I also ordered the hydra humidifier.

I have since set it up and seasoned it over the past week. I like the hydra, but I have no real basis for comparison as I never owned an active before.

I have two questions for you.
First: Does anyone know where I can get some extra ribbon cable for the hydra? I know bargainhumidors.com says they will replace it if it breaks for life, but I'd like to get a spare as ribbon cables are not the most durable.

Second: I used a humidipak to set my new digital hygro. Now the hydra has an adjustable hygro built in, but i can't find a way to creat a sealed system with the humidifer on to get a reading. Can I just set the hydra to match the newly tuned digital hygro ?

The first place I'd check is Cigarmony.com. Mark over there can probably hook you up. Or Ebay.

I ordered the 250ct treasure dome humidor . I also ordered the hydra humidifier. You are gonna love the Treasure Dome. IMO you might not even need the Hydra with the Treasure Dome, I had just beads in mine and it held the humidity just fine. Some people like the active system just to make sure and to avoid having to add water frequently. I did take the humidifiers that came with it and updated them with the beads after removing the foam. Here is a link of the Sticky on how to do it : http://www.clubstogie.com/vb/showthr...ion+with+beads

I am sure if you brought it to a computer/electronics store of some sort you could find something that would do just fine, perhaps even longer.

Go by what the digital hygrometer says, don't trust the Hydra. I got it too, I put my digital near it and go by that. Note the difference between the two and adjust accordingly.

Hope these help.

Thanks man.. I appreciate the help. I'm loving this humidor. To be honest, the biggest bother with my other was that it was flat top, and I always put something on top of it and it got beat up because of it.. I guess this is my direct way of saying STOPIT!!! Its rounded!!!

Anyway, thanks again for the help.. I'll be following your hygro advice.

No problem, hope that it helped. I love the fact that it has all the dividers to keep the sticks organized. I had so many singles it made it easy to keep things organized and the rounded top keeps you from scratching it up.
Enjoy the slope and start saving for the cabinet now!

I especially like that it has 2 long dividers, as well as a short which measures about 5.25" So I can separate it for longs and short.

That cabinet humi just seems to call my name.... I just might have to start a piggy bank for it afterall.

Lets see the HYdra cost up to about 100, the digital cost about 20, which one will I trust?

The digital hygrometer, Hydra's are notoriously off for calibration.

Do you think it is over kill to have a hydra in a 200 ct humi? I think I would like to have one.

Personally I do. With beads you can easily keep anything as large as a Vinotemp with no problems. I have no active humidification in my humi and it is much larger then 200 count
