The Little Havana Digital Hygrometer/Thermometer goes for about $20 at Holt's. They're pretty reliable and very compact. Heck, I even have one in my wine cellar.

There is eeerrr I mean was another post on this subject and the trend was that Radio Shacks are for some reason the most accurate and after trying 20+ digital hygro's I can tell you they are from my experience.

Re: digital hygrometers

I agree with kenstogie. I have 3 Radio Shack remote sensors. What makes them nice is you don't have to use them with a wireless device if you don't have the money yet. They have a readout on the unit, but it's a pretty small readout. If, down the road, you want to go wireless, you'll already have the sensors and just need the base unit. Just my $.02

I have to agree. Mine was dead accurate with the salt test and you can't beat the price.

If you have $50 available, the Radio Shack remote is neat and accurate.

Re: digital hygrometers

Guys, how big is the RS sensor? They looked a little bulky to me, compared to the CaliberIII unit that was also recommended in the other (lost) thread.

I know the oregon scientific version, which is similear in size, is a good 4"x6" and pretty thick to boot(saw them at Lowes). This isn't something your going to want in a 50 count desktop humidor cause it'll take to much space, probably more appropriate for a large humi or a coolerdor. I'm thinking about one of those Little Havana hygrometers for my travel humi. Which makes me wonder, has anyone ever taken a Little Havana apart? I wonder if it would be possible to take it out of its casing and mod it into the shell of the travel humi with the display readable from the outside?

Nah, the sensor isn't that big. Maybe 2" x 3" and 1/2" thick. You might be talking about the base station. I've got one of the sensors in my 100ct humi with it laying on it's side, up against the wall. Doesn't take up hardly any room considering I smoke mostly robustos. I can measure tonight to make sure.

Just a tip, it is reccomended not to salt test a digital hygrometer because the salt could affect the electronics by corroding the electronics. You could test it by getting a boveta 69% humidity pack and using that instead of the salt. Or something like the Fuente humidified bags where there is a set humidification level you can predict.

As I recall only the salt solution was corrosive not the air around it. So if your careful with your salt test you should be AOK. Of course don't spill the salt and or solution on any part of your hygrometer.

Re: digital hygrometers

If you want the Little Havana "Perfecto" hygrometer, I think this is the cheapest place:
