Dearomaticing Cedar
Is i possible to cover up the scent of Cedar or make it go away? I have a Old trunk that would be perfect for a humidor but its got aromatic cedar in it and i cant figure out out to take that part of it out. If i line it with plastic and then wall it with spanish cedar, will the stop the scent or is it something im going to have to figure out how to take apart

Re: Dearomaticing Cedar
From another thread lately about cedar, I think the aromatic cedar would be bad either way. But I've not done any project such as this, so I couldn't give any recommendation either way (some of the other BOTL's could be more handy there), but I don't think I would want to keep the aromatic cedar around.

Re: Dearomaticing Cedar
You might be able to seal it with an acrylic urethane wood finish, such as:

Re: Dearomaticing Cedar
If you cant take it out, try sealing and putting a new liner over it. I just bought some from here, http://www.internetlumber.com/lumber...-Lining-4-sqft and talk about a good smell.
If you cant remove the aromatic cedar lining, you might be out of luck on converting that chest. It still may stink a little. Good luck though

Re: Dearomaticing Cedar
I tried putting some planks of spanish cedar in an ebay humi that had aromatic cedar in it. Just ended up smelling like both. I haven't tried the acrylic coating through, but I'd be worried about that leaving a smell as well (haven't tried it though, but you're welcome to become our ginea pig

Awesome, cant wait to see the pictures.
What are you going to be using for humidification? I'm assuming some sort of active/bead combo.
