Cooler - Humidor

I think if I understand all I have read, some here turn ice chests (coolers) into humidors. If I am correct, does anyone have a few pics I could look at. I keep a 50 ct on my desk for the smokers and need a little some thing for Cbid. Thanks

Ok, it is as I thought. I was wondering, what is the fan for?

Look for the cooler with the best seal -- personally, I'm partial to Igloos.

Re: Cooler - Humidor

As long as you open your cooler 1 or 2 times a week you dont need a fan. Order beads(1 lb for a 48-70qt cooler) and a couple of mesh bags from Heartfelt Industries. They also have a nice digital hygrometer. You can use empty boxes or order trays to store you singles.

Re: Cooler - Humidor

Thanks guys, that's the info and pics I needed. Looks like a trip to get a cooler and a new order to get beads and trays. Then the fun process of trying to fill it up.

On another note (gonna hi-jack my own thread). It would seem some of the nicer wodden cigar boxes are in fact a humi, some on Cbid actually are listed as such. Is this so? If so, why do peeps like me buy humis for as much as a box would be with 20 or 25 cigars in it, then put the hardware in and be happy?

I have a 48 QT and just ordered a half pound from Hearfelt and they already shipped. Am I doomed or what?

EDIT: just did some calculations and the cooler is 2964 cu inches. According Heartfelt that is between 5-6 ounces and I'm getting 8 so I think I should be ok.

no, you're fine.
I ain't gonna argue with Bob, because he's thinking like a good gorilla.
i.e. Always over do it!

A half pound will be absolutely fine as far as your cooler volume is concerned, but more is always better.
1 pound is good for 48-70 and you're on the low end of that by almost 50%.
I've got a 150Qt with two pounds and it holds and recovers fine when opened.
