Great post Ron! thanks for the info....
To me it looks like Avallo and Aristocrat are both the Mercedes & BMW (not necessarily in that order) of cabinet humidors and it is a matter of personal preference looks wise. I assume both keep the cigars at the correct level of humidity which is the main (important) point. SO the rest is up to the buyer to decide about wood, glass choices, finish, etc. If the Aristocrat site specifically states false information about Avallo maybe you should contact the owner and see if he will retract his posted info...or you can always post your own comparison on the Avallo site.
To me it's good to see you posting on CS regardless.

That's the one I've seen before. I think what it comes down to is whether you want an heirloom quality piece of furniture or one that looks well made from the appearance but doesn't have the craftmanship qualities of the heirloom like solid woods, dovetail joints, etc.

I think it comes down to the actual humidifiers used and how accurate they are and how evenly distrubuted is the correct humidity in the cabinet and also if they can be recalibrated at home and more importantly why do they need recalibrating? Is it because they are as precision-made as the others? I wish one of the cigar magazines would do a shootout comparing all the popular cabinet humidors and the humidifiers they use.

Re: Cabinet Humidor Suggestions?

I just stumbled across this in a search. I was ready to plunk my $ down on the Avallo 1000 thinking that is was solid wood. I guess I hadn't done all my research...
As far as the difference goes I think they would both be fine humis, but now I 'm not sure about the veneer. I don't like the black seam or the shorter warranty. I hadn't noticed the seam in the pics.
I know the Aristocrat is the $hit, but the price is considerably higher for the same size cabinet (I don't have to pay for shipping on the Avallo, I can drive to pick it up)
I started looking at the Antietam. I then went to the Aristocrat mini for not much more money. Then went to the Avallo 1000.
The $ went from $355 for the Antietam
Aristo mini at $470
Avallo 1000 at $699
Aristo end table $1040
Each little step was easily justified for the performance gained. I have a Cigar Oasis that is less than a month old so I could use it in the mini and step up to solid wood. For not much more I can get a much larger unit with a climate control system (and sell my C-O to help pay for the difference) The Aristocrat endtable is for sure the finest (IMHO) but that is a lot of money for the purpose. It is however going to be in a highly visible area of the house.
I would like to see the Manassas from Bargian Humidors if anyone has pics (if they are going to offer them again).
For the time being I'm just totally confused!

Any suggestions from BOTLs who own any of the above units (or similar) would be appreciated.

The Manassas hasn't been available on BH's web site for at least a couple of months now.

True true.

I will look at the comparison when I have enough money to buy - and still feel good about - something like those humis. I'm just buying one of the cheaper models that I hope works as well. I'll track its performance and post the results for others as frugal.

Re: Cabinet Humidor Suggestions?

I use to own an Avallo 1200 Deluxe before I went and upgraded to an Avallo Triple D. The 1200 was perfect for me but I ended up buying too many damn boxes and had to finally go with the big dawg. Ron & Matt with Avallo have been nothing but awesome nice the beginning of my deal(s) with them!

Here's a couple of pics of the 1200 Deluxe right when I got it in June of 2004:

Re: Cabinet Humidor Suggestions?

Here's the Accumonitor system at work:

Yellow number on the left is what you set your humidity level for the cabinet. The yellow number on the right is the actual humidity in the cabinet. The green number below is the temp of the cabinet. You can adjust the humidity level and the cabinet will stay within 1 degree or less of the set humidity.

Re: Cabinet Humidor Suggestions?

This is the Avallo Triple D I purchased in July of 2005. It holds 90-120 boxes and around 600 singles in the top drawer. Hopefully, it will take me much longer to fill this up then the 1200 I had. Sad thing is, I'm getting there!

You can see the 1200 Deluxe next to the Triple D...looks like her little sister!

Re: Cabinet Humidor Suggestions?

How is the quality of the finish/veneer on the units that you have had? They look sweet in the pics.

In terms of quality, it doesn't get much better. The wood, fit & finish, and looks of these cabinets are all top-notch. I had a standard brown on the 1200 and decided to do a bit darker brown on the Triple D...both looked great and I couldn't have gone wrong either way. If you're thinking about getting a real custom made cabinet, Avallo would be my choice.

Re: Cabinet Humidor Suggestions?

I think you will find the Aristocrat a great cabinet humidor. The quality and workmanship is awesome.

Another thing to consider is Bob. Bob Staebell the owner and sales manager who will talk you through your custom building and also be there after delivery when you have questions.

His set and forget system is 100%. Always at 65/65.

Re: Cabinet Humidor Suggestions?

Thanks for having you eyes out. I had that unit in my ebay watch until I looked at the actual pics of the unit. It has an analog hygro and humidifier. I dont know if this is an older unit or it has been added by the owner after purchase. I would want the accuracy of an electronic unit.
Still looking

Thanks again for the link
