Storing humidors in refrigerator

I know a traditional refrigerator with a condensor is not good for storing cigars as it will dry them out. I was wondering if it would be alright to store your cigars in a desktop humidor (with beads) and then store the humidor in a traditional refrigerator (maybe add a few pounds of inexpensive Exquisicat cat litter inside refrigerator to better stabilize humidity) with a thermostat control. Would this keep the humidity consistent enough inside the humidor even though the humidity in the fridge would fluctuate when the compressor turns on?

I would be worried about stresses/strains on the wood.

Good point! I didn't think about that.

You create a genesis for a potential solution for our warm weather brothers. Wonder if a cooler in a refrigerator might work. Good ones are humidity tight. Other than condensation from quick temperature changes (like the first time you put it in) might be a good solution for those concerned about beetle issues from higher temperatures in the south and southwest brothers non AC or not low enough AC digs.

Ahhh. Good idea about a cooler inside of the refrigerator Dave! No wood strain and solid humidity retention. You can get inexpensive reliable refrigerators at Costco that are pretty good size. Find the right sized cooler(s) that will fit inside and you are golden.

I already have a few TE wine coolers which are working fine now but these things are notorious for dying quickly. A traditional refrigerator should last you for 10-15 years easily.

Now you're talking. I've been brainstorming building my mancave. But it will be like a 12' X 16' building in the back yard most likely. And there's no way I'm going to keep the AC on all the time. Might be able to get that to work though. A full size fridge out there with a coolerdor inside and the beer!
Of course I'll keep most of my stuff in the house but I WAS wondering how I would be able to keep some out there without them broiling in the summer.

Genius! I love you guys.
