Refrigerator humidor
I'm new to cigars and am currently hitting a local b&m almost once a day to pick up some singles to try some new tastes but more importantly because I don't have a humidor yet and don't want to get too large of a stock and have them dry out. After reading and reading and reading, the advise I keep seeing is that a humidor should be bigger than your current use to be able to handle the future growth.
To that effect, I am thinking about converting an old mini-fridge I had in college into a humidor. The fridge is in great shape, seals well, and is a pretty good size to hold a number of boxes and such. My question is, does anyone have experience with converting a fridge into a humidor and if so, do you have some advise or instructions? I have searched the site and have found pictures of finished fridge-adors but not too much as far as instructions. TIA. |

You may want to just consider a cooler depending on your local temperatures. Also, try clicking this for "Vinotemp" link and if you like what you see, watch your local Target for sales. I'm sure others will chime in who have far more experience than I do.

Re: Refrigerator humidor
So you all believe that being in the south, the cooling properties of the vinotemp will be easier to maintain?
If I choose to give the fridge a shot (it's just sitting in the garage) would the general setup be similar to the vinotemp but modifying slightly to provide cooling? |

Honestly, it sounds like you could just get a decent piece of Snapware for a humi and use that 'til you know more what you like. They make one for cereal with a double lid to easy access sticks and RH device without opening the whole thing. Or do the 18.5 cup square one for about 40 full size cigars. Get a puck or a 1 oz tube of RH beads and you are set 'til you start buying boxes.

Re: Refrigerator humidor
You can use this in a freezer/refrig: Johnson Controller
I have a freezer that I use it on - works perfect. Ron |
