Which wireless hygrometer

I'm updating my humidors and want to use the best wireless hygro. Right now I'm using Radio Shack wireless hygros from 2004 and they are off by 4 to 7 percent.

I've talked to a few "experts" in the wireless humidity thing. Thus far they all agree that La Crosse is the worst, of by 7-10%. Oregon Sci, is closer to accurate at 4-5% off. Now, if you have one of these things and somehow it is accurate, it's probably nothing short of a miracle. Unless you want to spend big, big bucks, I'm not sure you can get something accurate.

Also to add to the question (not to thread jack or anything...) I have seen the progamable hygro's at Taboo/Heartfelt/etc. What is the +/- on the standard salt test? If the hygro is progamable as per the results of the salt test then the hygro would have the same margin of error as the test... or maybe there's somwthing I'm missing ~KD

Unless I'm mistaken, the salt test should provide 75% RH with little or no +/-, if you don't under or over saturate the salt.

A little more in depth info here with specifics on how temperature can have impact on the test but even here, the max variation listed is at 76.29 degrees celcius and it's only ± 0.65, which to me seems negligible.

The programmable or calibratable hygro;s simply allow you to adjust the unit if it is off. For example, if you do the salt test or humidpak calibration test, you should get 75.5%. If your hygro reads 72% for instance, you would adjust it to say 75.5% and do the test again. If it is off, you repeat. Eventually you will get it spot on.

I disagree. My two La Crosses and the two I gifted out are spot on..even after salt testing both the remote unit and the main unit.

Are there any wireless hygrometers that can be calibrated? I don't believe I've ever seen one.

They can be calibrated, but you must be daring enough to open the back of them and mess around with the potentiometers. I simply send mine back to Control Company once every two years and have them calibrated by a technician/metrologist (this is the company that actually manufactures all the wireless hygrometers for Oregon Scientific). It only costs $15 plus shipping to calibrate (remote or the base, same price).

From the company they have an acceptable margin of error within +/- of 7%

Except those aren't wireless remote sensors. AFAIK, there are no user-adjustable wireless remote hygrometers on the market right now; atleast on the consumer market, not sure about professional level stuff.
