No Humidifier
I'm rather confused...my humidor is reading a solid 65% RH - a number that comes up using both of my digital hygrometers. But this is without a humidifier in it. It's a 100-120ish count box, and it's jam packed. Over the winter, I had struggled to maintain a steady/safe RH, but for whatever reason, now when I put in my humidifier, the humidity spikes up above 75 in a matter of hours, and I have to take it out.
The strange thing is that it just kinda 'happened.' One day it seemed normal, and the next it was way high with humidification, and perfect without the humidifier. Any ideas on what's up? Tons of snow has melted, and it's rained the last few days...but it's been like this for a couple weeks, and it hasn't been that humid I don't think. Either way, I'm gonna fork out some cash for beads sooner or later...but I'd like to make sure nothing gets ruined before that happens.

Re: No Humidifier
What are you using for a humidifier? PG solution? If you are using only foam with distilled water, as the temp rises the foam will only give off moisture. You need a way to regulate(add and subtract moisture), this is why most of use beeds. A 1oz tube should be enough, but if it gets humid in Edmonton in the summer I would go with two 1oz tubes.

Are your hygrometers calibrated?

Re: No Humidifier
Yeah, I calibrated them a month or two ago. And they both give the same reading in both of my humidors.
I think it may be time for beads...

Re: No Humidifier
I have had this same problem before.I live in the midwest, and here in the summer it is very humid usually between 70-90% humidity during the summer.
Just leave your element out for a few days but keep an eye on it & replace it inside when your humidity starts to drop.I have played cat & mouse with mine like this for several years with no problem.
