Ouch made a Big mistake!!

Hello everyone. I have a RyJ 125 Box and 6 Cigars left in it. I took it over and placed it in my friends Cabinet Humidor for about the last 6 or so months. Well today I went and collected my Box of Cigars to find out that my Cigars are dried up. I don't know what I was thinking except I wanted them to be kept nice over the winter, seeing he is always home and his home is always 70deg.

Looks like the issue is that it needed some beds or some type of Hummi care item to keep things going even if it was in his Humidor???

So here is where I need some advice. What can I do to make My cigars better? Out of the 6 looks like one was really bad and the other look ok just need to get a little moist. Also does anyone have one of these boxes??? It says it is a Humidor??? So do I just ad some beds and keep using. It is a Special Box seeing that it was hand painted and such.

Oh and the messed up cigar I am using some pectin and I am going to smoke it right now.

Thank You for the Help
James.

Re: Ouch made a Big mistake!!

I would take some time and bring them back up to the proper humdity slowly. Don't try to rush them back by over-humidifying or trying to smoke them too early. It may take a month or more, but it should be 'OK' when they get properly humidified again.

Yeah slow is key. I wouldn't think about smoking them for upwards of 2 to 3 months.

Re: Ouch made a Big mistake!!

slower is better...

50-60% for 3-5 weeks
60-65% for 5-6 weeks
70% for the remainder...

i did a experiment with padron 3000s and dried them out for 2 months, brought them back to life. They looked good, felt good, smelled a lil off. Tasted real flat...

in my opinion they if all the oils are gone they will never be the same...

Re: Ouch made a Big mistake!!

I'd follow the advice from the others above to try and bring your cigars back to a smokable state.

I also have the same box (although I think it came with a velvet bag that I've misplaced) and have recently converted it into a working desktop humidor. I added a digital hygrometer and a gel tube for humidity. Once it stabalized, It's held a pretty constant humidity around 67% for 3 months now.

Love the hand painted top.

Re: Ouch made a Big mistake!!

yeah I made a mistake of thinking that it would be ok inside another Humidor. Well it is a sealed unit and now I know better. I have added some beads and a meter too it and hope that I can get my Cigars back to a good state. If I would have thought about it I would have just kept it open while in his unit and then I would not have had this issue. Thanks for the insight and will do my best to keep my Cigars just right from now on....

Re: Ouch made a Big mistake!!

from the pics I can barely tell any dryness, but your word is taken.. but imho 6 months of neglect hmmm yes you can bring them back but some major flavor probably is lost....
