Coolidor- Spanish Cedar Question
So lately I've been thinking about starting a Coolidor. I have reviewed quite a bit of old threads on this site about how to make them, but I have a question about Spanish Cedar. Can I get Spanish Cedar from a local hardware/lumber supply store (Home Depot, Lowes, various lumber stores, etc.) or is it better to purchase this stuff from some online supply place? I know what good lumber looks like, but do I have to worry about quality of the Cedar when looking at local supply stores? I have some old boxes that contain 3 Spanish Cedar trays (not very big though), but not what I believe is enough for the coolidor.

Re: Coolidor- Spanish Cedar Question
You might want to check out Spanish Cedar trays. I find they work great. Put 5 of them in a $15 Coleman cooler from Walmart. Holds 150 - 200 cigars. Check out...

Re: Coolidor- Spanish Cedar Question
If you do have a local person to get it from make sure it is Kiln Dried. If it isn't it will leak sap or pitch and ruin your cigars. Also if you find a speciality shop that carries the wood they most likely will cut it to size for you. Just my
Have fun and good luck on your CoolidorJames.

Re: Coolidor- Spanish Cedar Question
If you are keeping your cigars in cedar trays or in their boxes, you have plenty of cedar in there. What I have done is to keep my smokes in cigar boxes and to fill in any large open spaces with empty boxes to make less work for the beads in replacing humidity after opening the cooler. Keep in mind that the purpose of the cedar is to absorb some water so that it can help buffer the humidity in the cooler.

Re: Coolidor- Spanish Cedar Question
Most of the boxes do have wood even if it is not Spanish cedar, as a major part of their construction. Generally there is wood under the paper on paper covered boxes such as many of the Fuente or Hoyo boxes. All of the boxes that I have used are all wood, I don't use any of the paper covered boxes.

Re: Coolidor- Spanish Cedar Question
I guess I'll have to start buying Fuente or Hoyo boxes then.
