$99 for El Rey Del Mundo humidor. Good deal?

I am somewhat a newb. Right now I have one of those cheap-o cherry humidors that come with samplers.

I came across a deal from one of my favorite cigar stores - JR's:
http://www.jrcigars.com/index.cfm?page=deals_erdm_no6

If I get a box of El Rey Del Mundos, I can buy the shown humidor for $99.

WHat do you guys think, is that a nice deal? I like El Reys and coronas are $51 for 20, so I would get some nice cigars and a humi for a nice deal.
Would like to hear some feedback. I never seen that humi before.

Good cigar and a pretty cool looking humi. Does cool looking make it worth $99? Not IMHO. How many does it hold (I found no detailed description)? If they say it holds 200-300 cigars, then ... maybe for the cool factor it is worth it. If it holds 25-50, NFW. I suggest you look around a bit more.

Do ya really wanna know?.....

I'll throw my 2 in.... I like the ERDM Robusto/Robusto Largas, and a few of their others. And $51 sounds like a pretty good deal on a box.

BUT...

for $100, the humi looks a little small, for starters. You can get a bigger one for less than or equal to that. Or you can pick up a cooler, some beads and have enough left over for ANOTHER box. I can't comment on the quality of the humi in question, so I won't.

Or you can blow the $150 on a box of Cubans and use a tupperdor for the time being, (and probably have enough to pick up the coolerdor anyway). That's what I'D do...

but that's just me.

Yeah, I'm with the previous posters. Unless you are a high-powered businessman who needs a nice looking humidor for your big $2000 solid oak desk... stick to a tupperdor/coolerdor. The money is much better spent on more smokes.

Someday when I'm rich I'll get a nice humidor.

Re: $99 for El Rey Del Mundo humidor. Good deal?

Well... I would like to have something a bit nicer at home. I smoke probably 1 cigar per week. It is more of a ritual for me, since it reminds me of my father... I smoked cigarettes for 10 years, I had horrid time quitting, so since I know my addictions, I am watching out for this cigar thing not to go out of hand.

That all said, I looked at some of the other options. Build quality is what matters to me a lot. Solid wood vs. lined - I'd rather pay a tad more for the solid wood.

Still looking for some input...

I saw that on JR too, and to be honest brother, it doesn't seem like that good of a deal to me considering what else can be had for ~ $100. In addition to what was linked above, there is a 500ct glass top on BargainHumidors for $115. This ERDM humi looks like it has a 75ct or maybe 100ct max capacity. Just doesn't make financial sense, but again, if looks are your thing, go for it and let us know how it is!

ERDM is a very good smoke. The humidor looks good. You can find bigger, good humidors for less money. But, if you like the look and the deal, go for it. I like the look.

ERDMs are always good. I get the catalog too and saw the deal. In my opinion, the humidor is too small for $99, and simply not worth it. Unless you are more concerned with the look of it.

Pick up the box of smokes and then pick up the Vicksburg glass top. Excellent box for the $$$!

Nice looking, but no one has mentioned that keeping humidity uniform in that type/style of humidor is a pain in the ash. There are many more options in the market IMO.

That is a heck of a lot of humidor for the money. I like it, NCRadioMan.

I think it looks slick, but it is probably cheaply made in China. If you are looking for quality made and solid wood I would keep an eye on eBay for a used Diamond Crown Humi. I have 3 and think they look beautiful and function great (they are all wood not photo veneer). I like having multiple humis. They are like pieces of furniture. Ultimately it is your decision... however, if you hang around here much you will need a coolerdor before long anyway. I have one for my "bundle sticks". This hobby is truly addicting!!

Re: $99 for El Rey Del Mundo humidor. Good deal?

It's cool looking, but I'm with the other gorillas here. You can do better if you shop around. You can get this Reed & Barton Diamond Crown humidor for $200 right now on Ebay.

If you go to my personal site, you can see where I changed out the handles to something more suited to the overall style. I also talk a bit about the construction quality. Overall, I'm pretty happy with it.

I do believe that part of the pleasure of this avocation is having a nice humidor to access and display your smokes. Link here for my thoughts on why only ONE nice humidor is all you'd need.

Please elaborate.

Is the problem just keeping a good seal with having drawers?

I was thinking of building a larger version loosely based on this. Granted, I have one half full humidor, and one completely empty....but I like making humidors.

Im hoping you can talk me out of this before I end up with another precisely crafted piece of firewood (Im really good at making that).

Re: $99 for El Rey Del Mundo humidor. Good deal?

I bought I fairly cheap 300 count humidor off a vendor on ebay. I think I paid about $80 for it and now that its practically full it holds approximately 150 sticks. Do I regret buying it? No. Still being new at this wonderful world of cigars I remember the excitement. I wanted a humidor, I knew a coolerdor or tupidor was more economical and practical but hell...I wanted something nice to house my new friends. Now that I have it I wouldnt buy another one, Id just go with a cooler.

I say yes you can get away with cheaper, however, if its what you want then you should get it. Maybe not that style but if it satisfies the craving then pull the trigger.
