what is a hydrometer calibration kit?

When ordering the humidor kit I want, it asks "would you like to add an EZ Hygrometer Calibration Kit for $3.99"

What does that mean? And do I need it.

Yes...if it is a Boveda (or similar) Hygrometer Calibration Kit...it's a ziploc with a small sugar-packet sized packet of fluid that measures 75.5% RH, and will tell you how far off your hygrometer is so you know whether to add or subtract to it when reading the dial if it's analog...also, there is a salt test that can be done instead, however, it's a pain in the a$$, and is not recommended for digital hygrometers...as far as digital hygrometers go, I have found most of them are off by as much as 3-6% so it's a good idead to test them too using the above mentioned Boveda kit...you can also get the Boveda kits on ebay...also, when it comes to digital hygrometers, I have found the Western Caliber III to be about the most accurate, never being off by more than 1-2% RH...

for a couple of bucks, if you are already ordering something...i would... I have heard that th "do-it-yourself" hygrometer calibration kit could damage expensive hygrometers..

I have never had any problems using the salt method but it does take 24 hours or more. If you you like the convenience go ahead and buy their kit, it's only 4 bucks.

I also have the Western Digital III, and have had absolutely no problems with it.

I have two of these and I salt-tested them both and they are dead on.
