Re: Ashton Savoy humidors?

I have the Savoy Large Bubinga humidor . Wood lid , tight seal , works great and looks great . I bought mine locally on sale for about $100 - $120 . Talked with a clerk who explained what to look for as far as performance . Get something you like the looks of and is functional . Savoy are very well made , however I did replace the hygrometer and the humidifier . I also have a Thompson that was a gift , it works but not all that well , I have to refill it weekly during the winter . The savoy only needs refilling every month and a half during winter . Or you could go the cheap route and use a cooler .

Re: Ashton Savoy humidors?

Those humidors have a good reputation - But, I personally don't like the glass top because of the need to be cautious about solar gain (glass top will allow the the temp increase if it is not protected from sunlight). There was a big long thread on that one and I was definitely in the minority - which is where I tend to be alot in this jungle!!

Anyway - good luck with your quest for a humidor.

Re: Ashton Savoy humidors?

Without giving away too much I can assure you that these are the same humidors that are available through all the normal on-line sources, and even on eBay. The same folks who sell on-line are also selling through their eBay personas. These humidors are from the same collection of Chinese and Taiwanese manufacturers that the two major U.S. distributors (Quality Importers and Orleans Group) buy from. Ashton makes cigars, not humidors. Don't spend too much money on a humidor.

I have the same box and it works great as well. Only paid 100 or so from Holts.

Re: Ashton Savoy humidors?

In regards to the glass lids, where do you actually attach the humidifier if my humidor has a glass lid? I am a newbie and I am currently trying to set up a Savoy with the glass lid.

I will be sure to keep it out of sunlight.

Well , the purpose of the glass is to be able to see through it . That being said , I would put it at the back below where the hinges are in the middle . However , I replaced the humidifier that came with my Savoy . I strongly recommend using the beads from www.Heartfeltindustries.com , maybe two of their tubes - lay one in the bottom and one in the tray if equipped . Good luck .

Re: Ashton Savoy humidors?

I too have a Savoy desktop and love it! Great seal, looks nice and doesn't cost a fortune.

Can't beat it
